TE Louis Irizarry (official thread)

Yeah, but Mike and Mike were ripping into Geiger for the comments he made, and saying that tOSU has more of these problems than any other similiar university. JT has had his share of problems, but the majority of them have come from Cooper's recruits. That excuse is now gone, so hopefully we won't see any more of these problems.

Dude, not for nothing, but I don't care who the coach is: be it Tress, Coop, Earle, Woody, or Frances Schmidt for that matter: kids are going to get into trouble on that campus. It has nothing to do with "how much a coach can reign his players in," or even recruiting the "right people."

These are 18, 19, 20 year old kids on the wildest party scene this side of Las Vegas, and some might say moreso if you're talking about campus alone.

There's too much temptation for the program to ever be squeaky clean. Anyone who wants to criticze that is a hypocrite and a moron. Until the day comes when all of these sportswriters' children don't make one mistake between the ages of 18 to 21, is the day they can talk.

WWLD....What would Lloyd do, what would Lloyd do....let them back on the team that is what.....

I don't know that we have really discussed or know what the answer is to this type of situation in the future. Perhaps dare I say it that the NCAA should have specific rules on how all teams deal with any of these violations. Not that I want the NCAA policing the schools anymore than they do, but at least there is equal dismissal and punishment for all players at all schools.

Why do people care what some morons on ESPN say? If you look at that AP story, it lists things that are irrelvent. Like "Pagac charged". Yeah, so? He was acquitted. Or the story about Holmes(who was acquitted) and Smith; it talks about how "girls were assulted". That's cute, but it was not them who assulted them, and that's what it makes it sound like. The media will spin it, ignore them.

CSTV article that lements blown opportunity

This article isn't that bad.

He talks about how more kids need to know about these guys because they need to know what not to do once they get to college.

re: what would Lloyd do... let 'em back on...

i thought that same thing because of marlin jackson smashing a bottle on a dude's head last year then getting sat out while they played the patsies on the schedule the first couple weeks.

Will Izzy and Ira situation affect redshirts?

Does anyone think the arrests and presumable suspensions/removals of Louis Irizarry and Ira Guilford from the team will affect the incoming freshmen, as far as who gets redshirted? I could see wanting a deeper stable at TE/TB positions, and we've certainly got some incoming talent, but does a situation like this warrant playing someone who might otherwise spend the year learning the system?

I think either Hoobler or Nicol would have probably redshirted this year if LI was in the mix, possibly both of them. I think it's fair to say one of them is going to see significant minutes this year, probably Nicol. Guilford being gone means Pittman or Haw could both get some carries. A healthy Ross, Hall and Guilford would have let us redshirt both of them if necessary, Kennedy as well(Be easy on me HH). There will be carries available for a freshmen or two this year now, you'd think.

I think Nicol will get time at TE for sure. Hoobler, it depends on whether he is being looked at for offense or defense.

At RB, I was of the opinion that Guilford wouldn't really help much anyways. IMO this kid is not a college RB. I was hoping he'd redshirt then switch to safety before his little incident. I think Pittman and Haw see time at RB either way. Hall is pretty much a non-factor. We need at least 3 capable backs.

It will be interesting to see how LI's legal troubles affect Hoobler. I believe Duane thinks he's better suited to play linebacker but the tape of him I saw at TE was impressive. Is Stan White going to be a TE or FB? Can Caldwell stay healthy? After Hamby we really don't know what we have. From a numbers standpoint the coaches may have to use Hoobler on the offensive side.

Nutty hit it on the head with his first post. Nicol is supposedly more polished coming in, but Hoobler has been working with Lowdermilk all through HS on blocking. One if not both can forget about the redshirt now. As for RB, one of the incoming frosh will have to stay on the chart and the others will redshirt, IMO, depending on Mo Hall's health. The way Pittman performed in the spring and with the headstart on blocking assignments, he will will have the edge on Haw to begin with, but if Haw is as talented as we all hope, he will be hard to keep down.

Related question from Cleve's comment that Guliford isn't a college back: I agree, BTW, and as it's pretty clear we don't and haven't needed him at safety either, why did we take him? Who were the other backs out there we could've had instead of Ira. His was a completely wasted scholarship. Yes, now we'll have two more to give, but we could've had someone else that was productive or at least had a significant upside.

I think all that is really needed at TE right now is some depth. I think either Stan White Jr. (or Arden in a pinch) can provide that. I know Stan doesn't have the ideal size, but I think he could get the job done. I'd hate to see Hoobler have to move over to TE just because of the Izziot.

I think it's a given that one of the frosh will see time at TE, regardless of what happens with Arden or Stan White, Jr. I'm more concerned about RB. This probably mostly depends on Mo Hall's health. There were some rumors flying around last week about how he is even thinking about hanging up the cleats altogether because of his knees. I don't know if that is true, but both he and Ross both have had a lot of trouble staying healthy, so it wouldn't surprise me if two of the three (Haw, Pittman, Kennedy) see significant action this year.

Additionally, you may not see any of them in action unless/until injuries do take out Hall or Ross. Regardless, if any of them see the field, I think they will see a lot of it, not just a couple of carries in "junk time".
