COLUMBUS — Tim Hinton didn’t know exactly who he had in his audience.
As the OSU tight ends coach began answering a question about Jeff Heuerman, responding to Coach Urban Meyer’s praise of the Buckeyes junior tight end a few minutes earlier, the door at the far end of the room cracked open.
With each glowing word from Hinton, the door cracked open farther and more of Heuerman appeared in the doorway. When Hinton talked about the physicality of the tight end, Heuerman stood in the doorway and flexed while reporters chuckled.
All the while, Hinton didn’t notice Heuerman was there until the joke was on him.
The moment was like Heuerman’s season and career at Ohio State in a microcosm -- often going unnoticed until a defining moment reveals he was there all along and the joke was on someone else.
“Don’t ever coach a guy like that,” Hinton said, motioning toward Heuerman.
Obviously it was a joke.
But the way Heuerman is playing this season is anything but one.
“He’s really, really, really good,” Hinton said. “I mean, really good at what he does.”

“The ringleader of what we want in terms of work ethic and such is (senior tight end) Jeff Heuerman,” Marotti said. “If I had to pick one guy right now, he’d be the guy."
Sounds like we can look forward to a big year for Heuerman:

He was one of the most impressive players I saw during a winter conditioning session. If you didn't know better you would think he has been with the program for years.
