Tajh Boyd (official thread)

How many accolades can you achieve for one school in a span of 4 years?

---

If Tajh won a National Title for Clemson, it would be their 2nd National Title, adding to 1981. Lofty goal.

If Tajh won a National Title for Ohio State, it would be their 6th* (8th?) National Title, adding to 2002. Lofty goal? Playing for it in '02, '06, and '07 says no...

---

If Tajh earned the Heisman Trophy while playing for Clemson, it would be their First Heisman Trophy. Lofty goal.

If Tajh earned the Heisman Trophy while playing for Ohio State, it would be their Eighth Heisman Trophy, spread amongst 7 players. Lofty goal? Not going off of recent history. (Troy Smith may pay huge dividends?)

---

If Tajh went to the BCS (even one time!) while playing for Clemson, it would be their 1st BCS appearance. Plan on sketchy, at best.

If Tajh went to the BCS (even one time!) while playing for Ohio State, it would be their 8th BCS appearance. Plan on 3 out of every 4 years.

---

If Tajh went to Clemson, and won a conference title, it would be the 14th conference title for that school. Lofty? Heh, yep, have to say so..

If Tajh went to Ohio State, and won a conference title, it would be the 35th conference title for that school. Not to mention, the outright favorite to win that title EVERY year that he is enrolled...

---

Just thinking out loud :)

Great points. Very nice post. My only concern is this; how willing is this kid to sit on the bench for the next 3 years. As it stands right now, TP will likely be here for his full eligibility. He'll probably need all 4 years to establish himself as an attractive NFL prospect. Boyd can go to Clemson and pretty much be "the man" from day one. I think he'd have a shot at an NC here if he waited his time, but I wonder if he wants to wait that long.

Peace.

I'm pretty sure Tajh wants to play ASAP, and he's lookin for the field next year. What makes no sense to me though is how he's about to have ACL surgery soon. I think he would be best suited if he took the first year to just get healthy, and also to put some distance between himself/other players eligability wise.

From what I gather, OSU can offer him just as much IMMEDIATE playing time as can the other 2, if not MORE...

I don't think sitting on the bench for 3 years applies to this situation.. We saw 3 weeks ago what OSU will do with 2 QB's who can actually play the position..

If Clemson wants to tell Tajh that they are giving him the spot, then fine and dandy by them.. it may get him to commit, for all I know... If Clemson tells Tajh he is the starting QB from Day 1 (as I would guess what is needed at this point, as a Band-Aid) then they are doing a dis-service to the other 84 kids on scholarship, by selling out their eligibility. What do I mean? How many seniors do they have that are also not willing to wait out this Dabo Swinney experiment? Our own recruit (Boyd) said it, what are the upperclassmen thinking?

As most things in life go, it would make WAY TOO MUCH SENSE for Boyd to pick us...

But he will! :wink2:

I went and left one thing out...

How did Boyd's parents feel about their visit to OSU?

" " " " " " " " " Oregon?

" " " " " " " " " Clemson?

I am the opposite of an insider, obviously. Just fill me in.

They mentioned on the news today that his dad wants him to go to clemson

Mom: No Decision Yet By Tajh

By Phil Kornblut
The mother of QB Tajh Boyd (6-1 208) of Hampton, VA said late Monday night her son has not made a decision but is on schedule to announce once Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 PM. Clemson recruiters Billy Napier and Danny Pearman visited with the Boyd family for better than two hours Monday night. Mrs. Boyd said they were the only coaches to visit the family Monday. Mrs. Boyd said the family will get together Tuesday for a final discussion and her son will announce the decision at the news conference. She said he will not inform the schools in advance. Boyd is deciding between Clemson, Ohio State and Oregon. Mrs. Boyd said all three schools remain under consideration.

Gardner

One thing to consider is does the commitment of Boyd effect the Devin Gardner recruitment negatively for many of the same concerns Boyd has about playing time, etc.? Gardner has many of the intangibles Boyd, Pryor, and Troy Smith brought to the table. 6'4, 195 as a junior with plenty of the same upside. We still haven't offered but he has been high on us for awhile. If Boyd does choose Clemson or Oregon, I think it puts us in better position for Gardner which, "could" be better in the long run. Plus it would be nice to steal another one from Michigan...Just trying to see the glass half full. Either way, Tress is doing a great job. Nice problem to have.

Devin Gardner after his visit to Michigan this weekend:

"They said just the regular old come to Michigan jazz", he said laughing.

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Home Page
Sounds like from the strategy it is a two horse race with schools that divide classes and offer a Spring term.

Tajh Boyd is in a hurry to get to college, and this afternoon the blue-chip quarterback from Hampton, Va., is scheduled to announce his choice from among Ohio State, Oregon and Clemson. Boyd, who already earned his high school diploma, said he intends to enroll for spring classes at the school of his choice and take part in spring drills. That would seem to rule out Clemson, a three-semester school whose spring term started this month, though he did not eliminate the Tigers from consideration the past few days.

But he told The Dispatch by text message of his desire to play spring ball because "I want to be able to go full speed by the time the season starts."
