Thanks for the great response.

based on this, I am assuming that Arkansas operates primarily out of these sets, how do you think the Arkansas offensive line can hold up to an outstanding front four, minus any blitzing?
that was true at the beginning of the year and can be depending on the opponent, but since the vast improvement of knile davis at RB over the course of the season we see a lot more drives with the TE(s) in on every down now.

i think the reason for this is twofold. one, our best WR is out and the sophomore replacement doesn't have the experience to sit down at the right spots in zones as well as the junior did, so checking down to run plays is often a better alternative. second, run looks that can pick up a blitz open up the deep ball which said sophomore receiver is more than capable of so as for pressure with the front 4, not really betting on that. LSU and Alabama failed to get pressure with 4.

as for ohio state not blitzing, i see the miami game film as evidence of that. when they did, they dropped a LB/DE into coverage at the same time. it seems to me that tressel values the opportunity for a pick more than the likelihood of a sack due to worries about the deep ball. OSU seems very reluctant to involve the safeties for want of keeping them in pass coverage.

A ridiculous claim. What Bobby Petrino did to the Falcons makes me want to puke. He was with the team for less than 6 months and left before the season ended. The team was vastly inferior to the resurgent Saints and Gruden's Bucs teams - but the only person that quit was Petrino.

As someone who paid $400 dollars for season tickets that year, players like Joey Harrington, Alge Crumpler, Lawyer Milloy and Keith Brookings gave absolute maximum effort and he quit when things got too hard.

Welcome to the board.
Yep. I'll take Mike Zimmer's word on Petrino's character:
On going back to Atlanta, Zimmer said about that season "I was never even there. As far as I am concerned. I never even was there. When a coach quits in the middle of the year and ruins a bunch of people's families and doesn't? have enough guts to at least finish out the year. I am not a part of that."
...
"He is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people's lives, a bunch of people's families, kids, because he didn't have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That's the truth."
When asked if he had seen a two days like that before, where the Falcons lost on Monday Night Football, a coach resigns and then is doing "Woo Pig Sooie" 24 hours later in front of Arkansas boosters, Zimmer said: "No, most people in football have enough courage about them and enough fight to stick through something and not quit halfway through the year. It is cowardly.
?He came in and said he resigned, he would talk to us all at a later date, walked out of the office and no one has ever talked to him since. Not that anybody wanted to.
"He's a gutless b-----d. Quote that. I don't give a s---"
When told that we might might not be able to use the B word, Zimmer went one better: "How about this, gutless MF. You can use that."

I really enjoyed seeing this kid play against LSU. Effort every single touch.

the coaching staff never told us who or what got him to change his attitude, but he was very tentative and seemed scared of contact early in the season. then all of a sudden after about week 5 or 6, he shows up with a bruiser mentality and starts putting up 5-7 yards a carry.

we don't have to worry about zimmer scouting for the bengals, because he's got a pretty good chance of being fired when this season is over.

and as for 'ruining people's lives', who exactly? the falcons were 3-10 when petrino left. and zimmer's defense was a big part of that failure. they gave up > 30 points 4 times before petrino left. the game petrino resigned after, they gave up 41 to the saints at home. the following week they gave up 37 to the yucs, and closed out the year by giving up 41 to the seahawks. all the while, the QB choices were leftwich and harrington. there was no future QB on the roster.

and since he's been in cinci, pacman? roy williams? and when those don't pan out whine injuries?

doesn't sound like much of a genius to me. gregg williams has played multiple games without both starting CBs, most of the year without sharper, and the entire year without a starting LB. yet the saints are 8-3 and still have a top 10 defense.

A lobotomy maybe?

Looking forward to a great matchup - assuming it happens - against a program I have respected for a very long time. I grew up watching Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin and company, never missed watching a Rose Bowl or an OSU - Michigan game. Tons of tradition and success and I respect Tressel a lot.

As a Hog fan, I'm hoping this is one more step on our journey to the upper-echelon of college football. We are inching closer under Petrino. And, we are an excited fan base that, for the most part, understands football and treats other fans with respect.

Here's to hoping for great dialogue in the coming weeks.......oh, and GO AUBURN!!!!!

It's one of our most enduring qualities. We genuinely hate each other for most of the year and then sing Kumbaya for each other come bowl season.
That's too bad. I was really hoping that your relatively short amount of time in the SEC would prevent hogs fans from feeling the need to bellow out an S-E-C chant.

Anyway, welcome to the board. The fan interaction here is starting to shape up to something closer to what we had with the Texas and LSU fans (good), and not some of the other OOC opponents that we've faced (bad).

I watched alot of Petrino coached Luhville teams..... live three times. My wife is from there and her Dad is a season ticket holder. I have no doubt that he is taking Arky to the next level...his character may come into question but his offensive mentality and system are somthing to behold. I think Mallett will stress our secondary if we dont get to him period. Everyone says that but it holds true....we will need to put it on him to create turnovers. I look forward to us being healthy for this game we will need everyone.

Try not to read too much into the S-E-C chant. It's just something that most of the teams do following bowl games as more of a respect thing to the other teams in our conference than to irritate the opponent. I realize that everyone outside of the SEC views the conference as being a bit overrated, but the only way to truly understand what it's truly like is to experience it first hand. Regardless of who your team is playing each week, the game is going to be a slugfest and it takes a toll. The West was a beast this year with 5 out of 6 teams ranked in the Top 25. The amount of trash talking between the fans of our teams is second only to the taunting that takes place on game day. Hell, go to Red Stick and you not only have to avoid the drunk LSU fans every 3 feet, but you have to avoid [censored] bombs after the game. Yes, [censored] bombs(water balloons filled with [censored]).

Anyway, it's an SEC thing that for better or worse takes place after most bowl games. We, as SEC team's fans, can be annoying in our arrogance sometimes. Generally though, we're a pretty decent bunch of people.
