Another gem from cfn:

"If Arkansas had been able to push a few more Ohio State ballcarriers from the seven-yard line to the goal line, the Hogs could have gotten three more safeties and won by a 32-31 count"
Exactly. I think we should coach D-Linemen not to sack the QB, but rather pick them up, carry them to the endzone, set them down on their feet and disengage, then let a teammate sack them.

2 points and the football, everytime!

One thing that's stupid, is all the "iffers."

If Arky had done this, if Arky had stopped that, or run this, or caught that...

I call bull[Mark May]! EVERYTHING is "if" in hindsight...

IF I had been born into a rich family, I'd be set.. of IF I'd win the lottery, I'd also be set.

THAT is why the games are played. I don't care IF they dropped 10 buzillion passes - tough [Mark May]. Do your farking job.

"Iffing" after the game, is cheap, childish, and irresponsible reporting to boot - IF ESPiN was smart, they'd fire half these talking heads.

Course, we know I have a better chance of winning the lottery, than them doing that

Bravo.

Here's another one...

If their receivers had half the hands that OSU's defensive lineman had, then Arky would have won.

This is my post-Rose Bowl comment from last year. I think that it also applies to the post-Sugar Bowl discussion. :smash:

Got back last night. I can really only echo what others have said but I'll do it anyway just to post-pad.

1) Arkansas fans were really a pretty reasonable bunch. They outnumbered us at least 6-1 on the street. Not sure what the percentage was in the stadium, but it was definitely a home game for Arkansas. In spite of all that, the only really unreasonable fans I saw where the ones that were bashing Mallett and calling for Tyler Wilson by the end of the first quarter. Almost got to see some Hog-on-Hog violence as people got REAL tired of that idiot by the 4th quarter.

2) TBDBITL was awesome. Arkansas has a fine band and they do a great job, but TBDBITL was really something. Many Arkansas fans were complimentary. I have to admit that I never engage in band-smack because...after all....it's the football game that we're really there for, but it WAS nice to see some positive comments coming from Hog fans who really didn't want to say anything positive about Ohio.

3) Bourbon St is Bourbon St. You either like it or you don't. I have always had fun there...no change in that capacity. What a mad house, before and, to a lessor degree, after.

4) The tOSU fans that DID make the trip, were loud considering how outnumbered they were. Good job to those of you who made the trip.

5) tOSU's DL...what a statement. There WERE open receivers running around a bit and a few of them made some obvious drops...but Mallett was under duress for most of that game. People talk about team speed and we've often noted that it's the speed on the lines that tells the difference between your average SEC team and B10 team...well the boys on our DL were constantly in Arkansas backfield. Just a tremendous performance there.

6) Loads of shoulda/woulda/coulda for both teams. Oh well...that's how the game is played.

7) Someone else said this earlier, but it bears repeating. TP is a crowd killer for the opposing team. On 3rd and long, even if you pin your ears back and come after him, he just moves so well and fast, that he finds first downs and takes the crowd out of it. That HAS to be deflating for the defense and fans.

8) Finally, and this is NOT directed at the Hog fans who have come here to BP...because for the most part you have been extremely gracious fans that I hope become a permenant part of BP...but I did hear just a touch of belly-aching about the suspended boys playing afterwards. Many of us might agree that they shouldn't have played, but that's just how things were agreed upon. That said, to a man, EVERY Hog fan I spoke with BEFORE the game stated that they were glad that the "suspended 5" were playing. They wanted tOSU at full strength so that there would be no doubt as the the superiority when the game was over. Well, you got what you wished for. They boys played...and played well.

Great game. Living in Little Rock, it would have been difficult to stomach a loss, so it's almost more of a relief than joy for me. Glad the game is over, but sad to leave N.O...I ALWAYS have a good time there.

Go BUCKS!

It's frustrating that every OSU win is followed by a lot of 'ifs'.

At any rate, a win is a win. We can argue all the ifs, but the only truly valid ifs are based on things that were outside the players' realm of duties, such as bad ref calls (there were many, and hurt both teams).

The rest of the *ifs* are always to cheapen a win.

Maybe Arkansas receivers dropped so many balls because the OSU secondary scared them into over-thinking their routes. Maybe they were too certain they were going to win, and were already thinking of their MVP speech.

The fact was, after a 28-10 pasting in the 1st half, there was very little you could say about the *ifs*. Arkansas had the chances to beat OSU then and there, and utterly failed. Likewise, they showed in the 2nd half that they could certainly win the game at times, but still made bad plays. Bad plays are a result of various reasons - some are luck, but many are rooted in discipline and fundamentals.
