Star Wars (May the Force be with you)

She's almost 5. I know it's young but I figured most of the violence in Star Wars was laser based and not gory so there's that. It's not like she picked up on the "incidental incestuous" vibe of the original trilogy so that kind of stuff will go over her head.

It's not like they knew they were related. I'm not 100% convinced Lucas knew they were when he wrote that one.

Hey, wait a minute...Lucas...Luke? How did I never notice that before? Is Skywalker George's secret fantasy self?

Just forced my 5 year old to sit through IV and V. She went from sitting right in front of the TV totally into the movie to running around the house doing anything other than watching the movie. Doesn't help when the 2 year old just wants to play. Figure she's not ready yet. Maybe in a couple years for VIII. I'm amazed I didn't go see it yet. I happened to check showtimes at 8:50 yesterday morning and saw they had a 9am and was half tempted to throw shoes on and go even though we had plans. My buddy is coming in from out of town next week and we have plans to go, but I really want to see it before it's spoiled. I'm sure seeing it twice wouldn't be a bad thing.

My 7 year old daughter is completely into it right now ... running around the house with an old toy light saber that belonged to her older brother; watched ANH with me two nights ago, asked to watch Empire last night, and asked for dinner at Subway just to get the kids meal with the Force Awakens messenger bag and glow stick. She sits still and mostly follows along.

My 5 year old, on the other hand, doesn't have the attention span for the films yet. She's happy pretending to be "Dark Vader" and whacking her sister in the arms with the other "life saver," but she cannot sit still through the movies.

That would be my concern if I were bstnga. I don't think it's too harsh for a 5 year old, though that's debatable, but will they sit through the whole thing?

We've been blessed our girls have always been very well behaved in public (theaters, restaurants, grocery stores). A bag of popcorn and a box of Dots candy got our youngest through Paddington last Christmas, which I think is the last non-animated movie we've taken the entire family to see in the theater.

I'm going tomorrow afternoon to see the movie with my just-turned-five year old daughter. She wants to go as she loves the movie theater experience (at least from her experiences with Frozen, Inside Out, and Paddington), but I'm worried she will be distraction. She knows I love Star Wars, primarily because I've been binge watching the Clone Wars on Netflix for the past two months, but she shows little interest in it. My hope is that she falls asleep throughout most of it as she has done with other movies that don't hold her interest (e.g. Minions and the live version of Cinderella--I'm still ticked over that one as I was stuck there because she wanted to see it) or she surprises me and ends up loving it.

Jesus, already? It feels like it was just yesterday you posted about having a beautiful, bearded baby.

I saw a few parents with kids that couldn't have been much older than 6 or 7. They seemed to handle it quite well and since there is a good blend of action, mixed with humor and heartfelt moments, kids should do ok with the new movie.
