Star Wars (May the Force be with you)

I may be able to let Rey slide, but Finn should have been torn to shreds in about 5 seconds.
There's a decent chance that the "new" stormtroopers are given some type of training in that area...maybe we'll see it in the upcoming movies...since he had already fought the stromtrooper who had the electrified staff thing, it kind of makes sense that he had training for it.

Did they explain why 3PO had a red arm?

Nope, but it wasn't necessary in this movie....

I think also you see with Ren is his training is obviously not complete (said so in movie) and he let's his emotions get the best of him, which could explain why Finn was able to go up against him

Saw it last night, Thought some of the story was kinda weak and a cop out. Should have expected it with Kasden writing the screenplay for this one. I'd say 7 or 8 out of 10. For a full judgement I'll need to see the whole trilogy once its finished.

Glad no more Han (Harrison had this look of my paychecks not big enough to for me to be involved in this crap again). I'm sure he didn't shed a tear for those scenes

Chewy had also shot his ass

As a father of a daughter, happy to see Rey's character being a badass, just hope they dont pull a Leia and go slave bikini and turn her into an object.

We're getting rather loose with the spoilers without using tags (which I've edited). It's only been in theaters for six nights, and the 7th-10th nights are Christmas related, followed by work nights. I'd vote for Jan 4th as the unveiling.

And again, avoiding this thread does nothing to avoid the spoilers for folks who use bpSpy.

Hey, Luke was deflecting laser blasts from the training remote on the Millennium Falcon with a blast shield covering his eyes like five minutes after they took off from Mos Eisley the day he received his light saber from Obi-Wan. I'm guessing it's pretty easy.
Rey was actually shown throughout the earlier part of the film as being an expert melee fighter with a staff, so the leap to light saber combat isn't as great as it was for a whiney po-dunk moisture farmer like Luke who had got his ass kicked in five seconds by the first sand person he came across.

Finn was a trained storm trooper so it isn't like he was a po-dunk nerf herder as well. I'm sure hand to hand combat is part of storm trooper training and he did only make it a few minutes against a sith trainee before getting put into a coma. I'm guessing Rey has a higher Midi-chlorian level(sorry couldn't resist) than Ren so she'll end up being more powerful.

Anyone else think Snoke will end up being Yoda size?

On the bright side if Lucas was running this Episode 7 would have started with Ren as a whiny emo kid. I'm going to see it again on Tuesday so I'll have to look for all the easter eggs that I didn't want to read about before I saw it.

Two fitting comments from the spoiler-filled article on what TFA borrowed from the EU

comments said:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a giant Xmas gift to geeks because it gave them something massive and new to worship, overly examine, conjecture upon and fight about, which are the things we love most.

Search your feelings. You know this to be true.
Oh man, all of the arguments about if Rey is overpowered or not. “But she had no training and Luke did!” “Luke only had, like, five hours of training, so does it really count?” “In the books, Luke trained more!”

It’s as if fans don’t know what fun means. Or else this is there idea of fun. I don’t know which disturbs me more.

Finished the Original Trilogy with my daughters tonight. My seven year old seamed most interested in how many Kenner Star Wars toys I had growing up in the 70s and 80s and why I didn't have them anymore to give to her.

I think I blew her mind with how cool the AT-AT was.

Just saw it

Really liked it overall, but thought the plot could have been a bit "different"

To me it felt like the script to New Hope and parts of Empire were xeroxed and slightly tweaked for this script

Yes.

I was entertained. But, it did feel less like a new chapter, and more like a re-make. With a less physically-imposing Vader. However, unlike Darth, can't see any possible redemption ahead for this guy. As the DD pointed out, even Vader couldn't off his own family member.

Also, found it funny that, even a generation or two later, the Empire still hasn't figured out how to hire engineers who can built a monumental death-machine that does not include just-hit-me-here-and-I'll-easily-go-kablooey design flaws.

So, the first spoken line in the movie is "This will begin to make things right."

Anyone buying the theory that this was a jab at Lucas' prequels? I can't imagine Abrams doing that to Lucas, but it is funny to think about.

Lucas seems to not be taking Episode 7's success well. Maybe it's because it's better than anything he's done in the past 30+ years and they threw out all of his ideas for the next trilogy.
