Star Wars (May the Force be with you)

stxbuck:
"1- Marked For Death"
Correct.
"-don't remember his characters name"
Jon Hatcher. Screwface was the villain.

"2-No idea"
Out for Justice. Name: Gino Felino, Villain: Richie Modano.

"3-Forget the title, it is the 1st one, where he wakes up from a coma and hooks up w/ Kelly LeBrock
Hard to Kill. Name: Mason Storm. Villain: Forget.

"4-Under Siege"
Correct. Name: Casey Ryback. Villains: William Stranyx (TLJ), & Commander Kryll (Gary Busey).

"5-no idea"
Above the Law. Name: Nico Toscani. Villain: Zagon.

"6-no idea"
The Glimmer Man. Name: Jack Cole. Villain: Smith & Deverell.

LV: "When Star Wars (IV) came out, there was no plan to make V, VI, I, II, or III."

Actually, you are incorrect. Lucas originally wrote a very long script which was about 6 hours (movie-time) in length. He knew he couldn't make a 6 hour sci-fi flick, so he took the first 1/3 and made Star Wars, and put the rest of it on the backburner in the slim chance that the movie was a hit and he'd get the funding to make the sequels.

Had there never, ever been any idea to make a sequel to Star Wars, then Darth Vader would've been killed at the end of A New Hope.

"well, i don't know about you, but i liked Jedi because i was eight... my sister, who is nine years older than me, thought that Jedi was colossal horseshit, and that the Ewoks totally sucked... perspective, my friend..."

What's the point here? Jedi grossed (whatever it was) $500 million dollars. You're telling me there's not one adult in 1983 who saw it and liked it?

"i realise that you are entitled to your opinion, but that an opinion doesn't make it so..."

When did I say that my opinion "made it so?" In the blurb that you quoted from me, I merely said, "I don't like the new ones." I don't see where I said, "I don't like it, so you shouldn't like it, and buckeyegrad shouldn't like it, and it shall go down in history as FACT that these movies sucked!" You like Phish, I don't. I like Star Wars, your sister doesn't. Its all opinion. I'm still trying to grasp your point in this rebuttal.

"this is my favorite so far, especially in your case... i hope you can step back, and relish that statement in all it's delicious irony..."

???? - Still trying to grasp a point here. I like Star Wars and don't like the new movies so I'm a fool ... or following a fool ... or foolish. Because buckeyegrad and I have differing opinions of a movie (which we disagree but both acknowledge are opinions), I'm a fool. Okay, makes sense.

I think you should go back and read this thread from soup to nuts before you venture an opinion. That's just my take. But then again, I'm a fool. Or following a fool.

"i loved the original three, and i love the new three... it's entertainment, not religion..."

Where did I state that its religion? Its a movie! Because its not 'dead-serious' life or faith, no one is allowed to have a passionate opinion about it?

$500 million? Is this adjusted for inflation or is it the world-wide gross for the movie? If I remember correctly, Jedi made about $310 million domestically in 1983 dollars. Still a very impressive number at the time, but nowhere near $500 million.

I havent seen Sloopy become judgemental about his opinion. In fact even though I differ a tad one some of his points, think he has done a nice job in giving reason for his opinion. Some of you take this stuff like someone stabbing your mother in the ribs :)

I would like to add one thing to this discussion. Notice I said discussion, not flame war.

Think of it like this. What is the most popular music in this country on most occassions? Rap/hip hop/etc. Now.....in comparing this type of "music" to others, you will see that they almost always lack anyone who can play an instrument, or carry a tune in any way. Yet it's the most popular. People like things because they are told that they are supposed to, or because other people do. Sure there are a ton of TRUE Star wars fans, but then there are a TON who like it simply because I do, or you do. This may not make sense, but tis how I see things. With that in mind, lets say Revenge makes like 300 mil........100 mil of that is people who are mindless sheep, and wander into the theater to see it, because their friend does and whatnot. So the gross that a movie makes is really not very important in my book. Hell, Titanic is the highest grossing movie ever, and I personally think it blew ass. Everybody knew the fucking boat would sink

Could you PLEASE quote people in italics like Sloopy45 so your thread can be as incoherent as his?

buckeyegrad: "If I remember correctly, Jedi made about $310 million domestically in 1983 dollars."

I didn't know what the total was. That's why I said, "(whatever it was)." Thanks for the clarification.

BrutusMaximus: "I havent seen Sloopy become judgemental about his opinion. In fact even though I differ a tad one some of his points, think he has done a nice job in giving reason for his opinion. Some of you take this stuff like someone stabbing your mother in the ribs"

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My point exactly! Props coming ..

Thump: "Could you PLEASE quote people in italics like Sloopy45 so your thread can be as incoherent as his?"

Is this the best you (relative) newbies can come up with?? I won't mention any other names, but here's some advice for you: come up with something funny, or insulting, or creative when you try to go at someone.

Case in point: Mili and Tibor have been going at it for years. When they do, the replies are always creative and entertaining for the people that read the posts.

You offering me a "cookie" or trying to poke at the italics is stupid. It makes you look more dumb because you can't come up with anything that has any bite to it.

I use italics ... Oooooooooohhhh!

Most of you would've gotten killed in the ol' Bucknuts days.

Fwiw... per Time Magazine... before this last film was released... the whole Star Wars Franchise... Movies, Toys, Video Gaems, etc, has grossed over 9 billion dollars in revenue.

Please give me some advice b/c I need it.

Since when is this: :tibor: entertaining?

It must have had some bite since you felt the need to respond.

Uh, I was there douchebag.

BTW, nothing worse than "getting killed" on a message board. :roll1: Whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.

PS: Above is how to correctly quote people.

Dump (as in take a): "It must have had some bite since you felt the need to respond."

Not really. Just giving you advice. It'd be more entertaining for me too if you could come up with something.

"Uh, I was there douchebag."

Unless you were there under another name, you're a post-2002 Bucknuts poster, or someone with nothing to say. Like I said, a newbie.

"PS: Above is how to correctly quote people."

No. Actually, the correct way to quote someone is classified as, "However the fuck the writer wants to quote someone." Unless, of course, you took your obviously massive experience in the matter with 4,000 posts & wrote a guide to Internet Posting which says otherwise.

Next!

Unless you'd like to offer me a cookie, call me a homo, or insult my italics again ..

i'll give you credit for the rest of the post... but i think you missed my point here... if you hated I, and hated II, and don't think that Lucas has had a poigniant thought since 1976 or whatever, why in the world would you bother to see III? seriously, you already KNOW how it's gonna end... so why bother subjecting yourself to the angst of hating the man who made your life what it is, simply because he didn't do it the way you wanted him to? that's why i called it a delicious irony... you loved the OT more than anything... you thought the first two prequels sucked... yet you still went and plunked down your $20 to see III... all with the preconcieved notion that it was going to suck... now granted, you hoped that it would be better than the first two, but that's about it... and now you come here and talk about how great the OT was, and how sorry the NT is...

Lucas fooled you twice, and you STILL went back for more... following the fool, so to speak...

i mentioned perspective in passing in my first post... i have a 13 year old nephew and a 10 year old niece... they love the new installments, but kind of shrug off the OT... because they have a different perspective... which is something you could sorely use in your analysis of the NT... the NT will NEVER meet your expectations, because you expect it to move you like it did when you were a kid, which is an entirely unrealistic expectation... besides, one can't help being disappointed by watching a movie where one already knows how the story ends... the movie just can't do the story justice... i can think of a TON of excellent books that have been made into so-so or even bad movies... that's just how it goes...
