Spring Fundraiser and a New Server (Merged)

I see nothing wrong with sending a mass PM out if it won't blow the server up. At the same time though, I was wondering, would it be possible to filter out those who have already donated so that there isn't a duplication of effort? I mean there isn't any point to semding the PM out to those who have already ponied up is there? Just a thought.
I don't think people who have donated will mind an extra message.

In other words, bump.

There is a limit to how many people you can PM at one time... Kinda rules that out.

From the "write a PM" page

You may send up to 5 messages at a time.
Separate multiple user names with ';'

Which I interpret to mean that you can only send to 5 different people at once, I could be wrong, and don't really feel like testing the theory out.

OK, I lied.... I just sent one out to 6 people... we'll see what happens

Sorry guys, I was right...

Too many recipients - you are attempting to send to 6 users but you are only allowed to send to 5 users.

Not sure - but isn't that a case of a restriction placed on a user account (a Buckeye Planet member)? Seems to me that sending a PM to a group should be possible for an administrator acccount, which gets us back to ... Clarity.

Probably would work from an admins account. Has anyone run this idea past Clarity, I wouldn't dare speak for him, but I would venture to guess he would look at it as badgering and probably decline. The way I look at it is that most of the people who visit here with any regularity have already seen the threads and discussion involving the "server drive". If they were going to donate, I would guess that they have already made up thier mind and either have or are waiting for the $$ (payday, tax return, whatever).

I think we should have a $5-a-year membership fee. ..Charge all members $5 a year for site access (folks who have donated a minimum of $5 in this drive are exempt), or $20 for lifetime membership.

Or, if that's not acceptable to Clarity, have an award icon for those those who donated
this still sounds like an exceptionally fair deal for what ya get... maybe the recruiting thread stays free.. and $5 get you all other features.. still the deal of the year.. I mean really now... $5 ?!?!? come on... $12 (a buck a month)...

and if you do the award icon.. you should consider including folks who contributed before the formal drive ... after all, that was the purpose of having the contribute feature available at all times

Sorry to say, but I think gregorylee is correct. Think the "Assasin" and you'll be in the correct neighborhood. But that doesn't account for those folks who had a donation in before the drive started, or those who purchased T-shirts. It also doesn't account for quite a few folks who've stated that their donation is on the way but aren't on the list yet. The number is sure to rise a bit in the next day or two, but I'm hoping we can do better.

I will update the medals this morning and you can judge for yourself. Heck I'm not even on the list yet! No medal for me ... yet.
Where is my medal, man???

Yes, the administrators can send out a mass PM. I think we just want to wait and see if Clarity can/will write the letter. And if he thinks the idea is worthwhile.

We were at 19% the last time I posted. So we have jumped about 20%. Since Charlotte was sending $1000, I'd say the rest of BP contributed 10% since our last update. Good job guys!
