Sports 'journalists' (Who Don't Work For ESPN)

Doug Lesimreses in the CPD today said "If the honeymoon isn't over for Meyer, he had at least better start to pack" (paraphrase, I probably have a word or two wrong).

Gee, thought he might actually have to lose a game first :shake:

As has been said, Ohio State should put on the cape and become the heel the Mediots so desperately want them to be.

All those failed English majors will fall all over themselves telling everyone how EVIL Ohio State is....revel in it people. It's awesome to be truly hated by those that everyone loathes

Does anyone truly expect Hayes to actually reseach any facts before writing an article?

I'm not one to jump on every negative article as some warped combination of hate/incompetence/envy driven agenda against Ohio State. I'm also pretty unforgiving regarding disciplinary issues.

All that being said, that was possibly the worst, most ill-informed, agenda-driven article that I've ever read. I'm dumber for having read it.

I don't think he was actually some much as an indictment on Meyer's coaching ability, but more regarding the national perception of the Buckeyes:

Goodbye, Ohio State.

The Buckeyes will now vanish into the ether of Big Ten schedule mediocrity, reappearing only after you've fattened yourself on your Thanksgiving turkey. They'll go as victors after Saturday night's 40-30 win over Northwestern, which ended with a defensive recovery of a Northwestern fumble on the last play of the game. But they'll venture into their bye week with questions about their best players (Bradley Roby and Braxton Miller) and their coach (that fake punt try).

Urban Meyer is 18-0 as the leader of the Buckeyes, and Ohio State, fourth in the AP and third in the coaches poll, will remain ranked among the top five teams in the country.

But if the honeymoon isn't over, it's at least time to pack.

After a weak nonconference schedule, the Buckeyes had two games to show what they were about. They found ways to win, but did so while exhibiting their imperfections. And those blemishes appear in ways that are hard to ignore. The Buckeyes wound up as a team that needed to be bailed out by one player running behind an offensive line that eventually drove Northwestern into the ground. . . .

He actually makes some valid points.

It's ridiculous. Every year, people start acting like close games means you suck. Then someone says what about 2002? Well this year's team is no 2002! But 2002 wasn't 2002 until they beat Miami. Close games build character and confidence. This team is far from perfect but it's perfect where it counts most. Wins and losses. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna complain while my favorite team in my favorite sport is 18-0.

Most here at BP are fine imo. But outside of this cocoon, the world has gone batshit.

What really kills me are all the sports paparazzi talking about "style points". How important were style points last year? There's been what, one year in the bcs era with more than two undefeated bcs conf teams? Fuck style points and just keep winning while all the other teams choke.

I didn't mind the fake punt. Urban was a looking for a spark, and the alley was there if Johnston had cut it back inside instead of running outside putting his blockers on the wrong side of the play. Bad awareness on the part of the freshman, but it wasn't a bad call.
