Songs you're almost too embarrased to admit you like

Notre Dame, Hail to the Black and Gold (Purdue)
I totally agree. Those are my third and second favorite fight songs... Purdue's isn't as well known as it should be.

Fight On for USC
But I just don't get this. I respect what USC has done a ton, but I hate that song. The frequency their band plays it doesn't help. They seem to play the damn thing after turnovers to celebrate that the other team didn't return it for a touchdown.

I understand what you're saying, but now we're talking about band behavior and not the song itself. The other thing they do that drives me nuts is that Hollywood - Roman Gladiators entrance thing after every damn play. Still it's a good fight song. Just pondering, why are the West Coast fight songs in 6/8 and the Big Ten's in 4/4. We got a band geek on board to explain that?

I would love to take half a year off to tour with them...really cool

I think that those of us in the know understand where I sit on this issue.

I'd do it for free if I could... I'd love to tour South America or Japan/Asia with them. I'd even get Myung to talk! Heh. Solid guys, maybe not the FIRST band I'd choose to tour with (I'd prefer a better show after the show), but for music's sake, top two. Don't ever make me choose between them and Pain of Salvation.

On topic, I'm generally embarassed to admit I like Rhapsody. I don't have any problem admitting most of the metal I like is fairly cheesy, but these guys take it to a whole new level.

Why would anyone be embarassed that they like Dream Theatre or that they think that Dream Theatre is one of the most innovative bands that has happened in the past decade or more?

I certainly hope you didn't misinterpret my post... I love them with all my heart. I have Dream Theater window decals for my car, I have two shirts, the 6DoiT album cover is my avatar on 4 differnet things that I can count, including my poker avatar. I've got all my old tickets for concerts filed away in chronological order (up to 12 now). Dude, my dog's name is Victoria, how hardcore is that?

Dream Theater. Not Dream Theatre. Well known pet peeve of Mike Portnoy's, more than anyone else in the band.

Only Time - Enya

When I was the high school marching band, we used to try and arrange current sings to play during halftime, or to be performed by a brass choir. I got into the habit of trying "hear" what a song would sound like played by a brass choir (cornets/trumpets, French horns, trombones, baritones/euphoniums, tuba/bass). That song is perfect for a brass choir arrangment.
