Simple Jim seems to be on an Earle Bruce trajectory. Bunch of 3 loss seasons followed by a major disappointment.
In 1987, Earle Bruce was known as 9-3 Earle, even though the team had broken that string of 9-3 seasons by beating Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl on 1-1-87 to go 10-3. For the 1987 season, Earle had a huge number of returning starters and expectations were the highest they'd been since he'd taken the job. The Sporting News was still a thing that people paid attention to (it actually had a good reputation) and it had Ohio State as its pre-season #2.

Not just 6-4-1, but a 6-4-1 that included a hideous come-from-ahead loss to Iowa in The Shoe, right in front of me. Chris Spielman's last play in The Shoe; he was dragged into the north end zone by an Iowa tight end. Decades later on his Columbus radio show he would say that he never changed a defensive call in the huddle, but that on that play he was sorely tempted because he knew it was the wrong defense.
The only question now is: Will TTUN players line up on the field for the coin toss wearing "Earle" headbands? I don't know, but it seems just as likely as seeing them wear "Jim" headbands.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall. My guess is it gets really ugly. The trajectory from here does not appear to be in their favor on the field, and I suspect that the Portal traffic from UM.edu IPs is at an all time high. Pray God that this spills over to recruiting as well.

You could make a strong argument that the most impressive thing Jim Harbaugh has done at Michigan to date is tie Ohio State in regulation in 2016. And I'm not even as joking as you'd hope. That really might be it.
And as if watching that coach falter in a big game for the umpteenth time wasn't bad enough for Michigan fans, this time they had to watch the former coach of their biggest rival who kicked their ass for seven-straight years break down the flaying at halftime and after the game.
But hey, at least some of the fans seem to be taking it well!

No actually, they don't deserve shit. That's what makes this all so hilarious. This is exactly who they are. This is exactly what they've earned. This is their identity.
They've done absolutely nothing of significance in my 25-year-old memory yet they insist they're relevant with greatness just around the corner just because they were unbeatable when the forward pass was considered a trick play (though based on how their offense has looked this season, maybe they should let Fielding Yost's corpse call the plays).
But that banked greatness is running out faster than a leaky hour glass.

EDIT: I see people saying that Boise State has not passed Michigan in the NCAA records book. This is true, however this is because their records are off by one game. They are counting a 1997 forfeit by Cal State Northridge as a loss, when according to their own rulebook (Page 24) it should be counted as a win for Boise State. Winsipedia has taken this into account and has the correct record.
If you do your some quick maths, you'll see Ohio State ain't far behind. And by that, I mean we could have a changing of the guard before the end of November, if you catch my drift.

The message has worn thin. I’ve lived within 20 minutes of Harbaugh’s two most recent employers since 2011. One thing that’s always struck me is that despite leading both to glory, he is not at all missed. I remember being puzzled at the time how he fell out of favor with the Niners so quickly after leading them to three consecutive NFC championship games, so I asked around with people who’ve worked with him. The general response I got was this: His uniquely maniacal energy works wonders upon first taking over a down-on-their-luck group of players, but with time, eventually, it wears down everybody in the building.
It’s fair to ask whether that’s what’s happening here. Is it possible “Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind” and “Who Has It Better than Us?” stop resonating once you’ve suffered a few too many blowouts? Remember, this, Year 5, is the longest he’s lasted in any of his four head-coaching jobs to date.

I’d like to know how Josh Gattis sold a giant steaming turd to Harbaugh as a 13 course black tie dinner. The X and O guys basically said it appears Harbaugh went hands off with the implementation and planning for the offense. There’s a reason coaches don’t blow up their offense despite its mediocrity: the other option could always be worse, especially if the staff doesn’t know how to implement it. Pair that with Michigan’s lack of talent, it’s a beautiful disaster.
