SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

In the era we find ourselves in right now what is needed from the rest of the B1G is to be a JGEC

Just Good Enough Conference

A 1 loss OSU just got in the playoff out of the B1G whose perceived strength is at an all time low
1 loss Baylor and TCU were in the conversation out of an equally ridiculed B12
FSU got in by (barely) going undefeated through the pathetic ACC

Point being conference strength doesn't have to be SEC ZOMG!!!!! strong. It just has to be good enough.

If any of us could influence anything I would hope we would demonstrate the collective sense that god gave a billy goat and always have a top 10ish MSU and a top 15-20 ish opponent from the west in the B1G CG.

I understand all points and I'm not here to argue with fellow Buckeye fans. I'm on your side. We just feel differently about it.

@matcar, I'm not sure what age bracket your referring too, but I'm 35 years old. I was around during all of the Cooper years, I understand the OSU/tsun rivalry well enough. I agree some may be too young to fully understand how shitty those Michigan games were, but I was there too. I fucking hated those years.

Eh, 15 years ago I'd probably agree with you. But in this modern landscape of college football, the goals have changed. "College football fans" got their wish and its playoff time. Its no longer regional, and its no longer about beating M*ch*g*n and going to the Rose Bowl.

I want EVERY possible advantage in this new national game. And a good M*ch*g*n program stealing Heisman trophy winners from Ohio is not good for TOSU.

The last paragraph is exactly what I was thinking, except for 1 point you made.

Does this contract finally break the 'NCAA as governing body' model? Or does this begin the process of forming some kind of 1A Super Division, with the big boys that can afford to play? Because the NCAA is not going to get into the business of 'salary caps' on programs in my imo.
I agree that the NCAA is not going to get into salary caps, nor would I want them to do so. What I am wondering is if the NCAA would begin to explore creating overall expenditure caps for individual sports at it's member schools, based on an average for schools in a division, etc. Let an individual school determine the salaries, etc. of employees who administer and coach those individual sports but have their salaries be part of a limited total for a sport for a given year. Since Title IX from the Federal gov. demands that women's sports be supported if a school has men's sports, there shouldn't be concern regarding an expenditure limit causing the demise of women's sports.

I"m just looking at the overall picture and wondering how a smaller school such as Toledo, Bowling Green, or Western Michigan is going to continue to support a football team that can in turn support numerous other sports such as track, volleyball, etc. if their only draw is going to be alum and they can't compete with the big schools for potential NFL recruits. For example, the majority of people in the stands at a Michigan football game are alums, locals, business people who have guests, and yes, the famous Walmart Wolverines(whose mascot now can be Harbaugh and his cheap, ill fitting, unwashed khaki's). The student section is rather small and this year, was a lightning rod that helped get Brandon(Pizza AD) fired, when it contained many empty seats and students complained about the increased prices of tickets for students. In other words, what you see in the stands at Michigan are a large percentage of people who never attended Michigan, but like to be seen with a winner, and think of themselves as one of the intelligent elite because they have a Michigan sweatshirt on and say they are a fan. Regardless of the actual makeup of the fans, now with Harbaugh as coach and as Michigan begins to win again, the stands will limit out again and the money will resume flow.

Smaller schools won't have that support from non alum.

I'm a fair bit older. But if you are 35 and somehow think, even remotely, that our position in the college football landscape is better when TTUN has a coach better than Hoke, then I question your judgement.

I also question the logic that it's "more fun" beating a quality TTUN. How the hell could that be more fun than watching huge flameouts each year. Even if you assumed that the single game experience of beating them is better when they are good, you would be completely ignoring how delightful it is, week in and week out, watching them be a disaster.

This x ∞
This is kind of the point, isn't it? "It's more fun to beat good scUM" How is it even possible to be more fun beating ANY scUM team. It's like adding 1 to infinity.. There's no difference. I don't care if they field a team of 4 year olds or NFLers... I want the Buckeyes to destroy them. Period. And I'll cackle when they do.

Seriously...
Fuck em.

By the way, the Ann Arbor paper is still saying that the team has not been told that Harbaugh is confirmed nor has the school confirmed his hiring to others. Harbaugh is still listening to NFL teams despite ESPN's assertion that his hiring is complete by Michigan.

At this point I would be surprised if he went elsewhere, but I would love ol' Jimmy Harbaugh if he ultimately did choose to stay in the NFL. The meltdown would be epic.
