SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

I think Harbaugh will do well at UM, and the future battles btwn he and Urban should be awesome. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope he stays there for some time as I think Urban is here to stay as well.
I'm not a fan of the rivalry, I'm a fan of Ohio State.

I don't want Harbaugh to do well. I don't want "awesome battles" with Michigan, I want to beat them. I want Dick Rod or cHoke or some other idiot running that team up north. I hope that Harbaugh's stay in Ann Arbor is as short as possible.

In other words, they can shut up shop and close their FB program after we overtake them in total wins for all I care.

This thread and the others like it are funny.

He's an asshole and may not be there long term? I mean, beyond being able to talk some [Mark May] does that really matter? Some people think Urban Meyer is an asshole and he might not be at Ohio State long-term... so what? Seems like a lot of people are straining to think of ways that this hire will be like another Rodriguez or Hoke. I don't see it. The guy is a formidable, name-brand coach with an actual track record who should be capable or returning them to Lloyd Carr-era levels.

I've always said that it's my job to hate scUM and root against them and it's their job to be a worthy rival to Ohio State in spite of my wishes. For the first time since 2006 or so it looks like they might be taking their role seriously. For that, I give them a hearty salute:

This.

Most of my posts have involved "fuck" because I know this is a good hire, a homerun. There's no other way to spin it. He is a superstar going back to his school and a hell of a coach. He is going to recruit and he is going to put a real good team on the field and, unfortunately, he will probably beat Ohio State at some point during his career, which makes my stomach sick because I don't want to feel or even think about a loss in that Game.

BP has done a pretty good job of calling a lot of coaching hire successes and failures. We're generally a smart bunch. This one is a pretty easy one to call from my vantage point. Ohio State's job just got a lot tougher- recruiting, championships, and The Game.

But I also cannot wait for this bitch to be welcomed by Urban Meyer and may that welcoming last for as long as he's willing to stick it out. Fuck Harbaugh. Fuck Michigan.

My dad was at The Game where this whiny asshole cried to the crowd because of the noise and drew a penalty. A fucking penalty because he bitched out. My dad has an extreme hatred for this guy and any hatred of my father is a hatred of mine. I am glad to have that hate passed down to me as something of an extra father-son bond. We don't particularly discuss much outside of sports, particularly Ohio State- he's always been the quiet type, not expressing much emotion outside of these topics. Jim Harbaugh, though, has always drawn additional angst to him, ever since that Game and he's never been shy to express that.

Seriously. Fuck Harbaugh.

And it will be great for TTUN to have a coach I can truly hate for the first time since Bo. Llllllloyd seemed like a decent human being and Dick Rod and Joke were too hapless to hate. This could be fun.

Can you explain the bolded part? Didn't know that had happened, and that would've been allowed... I ask because I don't know.

There used to be a penalty in the 1980's for crowd noise in the Big Ten. Bo Schembechler and Jim Harbaugh seemed to make the most stink about it from what I've read.

At some point (well, multiple points, I believe) the crowd noise was so loud that Harbaugh turned to the ref and complained and they threw an unsportsmanlike penalty on the Ohio Stadium fans.

So, yeah. I want to make this guy's life hell when he returns to the Shoe.

I get both sides of the argument. I get wanting to see tsun sink further and further into irrelevance. I get wanting a worthy adversary for the greatest rivalry in sports.

I kinda come in a little on both sides. I've thouroughly enjoyed the past decade of dominance, and I remember tsun fans eating their words when they wanted a tOSU coach to make it a rivalry again then seeing JT come in and destroy their program with help from GBYBMYMB and the synergy and outside the box thinking that the pizza man delivered.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a ten year war in my lifetime.

Woody said anything easy ain't worth a damn. I wouldn't say the decade of dominance wasn't worth a damn, but it's also going to be sweet beating them with Harbaugh, knowing they believe they have Bo reincarnated.

How long til Jimmy guarantees a victory in The Game?

I don't kno if I can separate being a tOSU fan and a fan of The Game. They're linked in history.

It's a great hire and he should get them back to Llllllloyd status in short order, but there are caveats involved.
First being the expectations. I never expected what Urban did the first two years, so I thoroughly enjoyed it... but these people seem to think Harbaugh will make them Conference Champs overnight. In one season. That's out-of-control. Maybe my perception is off b/c I ignore most of our own fanbase ... maybe places like bucknuts were just as unreasonable when Urban took over? But what I'm seeing from Michigan fans defies reality, and it could be a painful fall from that high.
Even worse, it starts on Jan 15. He's got a very small window to assemble staff and salvage that train wreck of a non-class. I don't think it's unreasonable to presume he'll be trying to flip some of our verbal commitments... which I'm not looking forward to. But what happens if he can't manage the top-5 class they've convinced themselves will magically ditch everyone else for their savior ?
What happens if they lose their first game @Utah?
Given the ridiculous expectations and his penchant for speaking his mind, I could see some scenarios resembling Bo Pelini.
How long will the honeymoon period last? With Urban and Dantonio still doing their things plus Franklin quietly putting pieces together w/no more sanctions... I can't see the 12 win seasons happening on their time table (if ever).

Then there's the Kirk Ferentz factor... every year there will be rumors about NFL teams poking around, and smart money suggests it'll happen at some point (unlike Ferentz). I don't think this is very comparable to the likes of Gatorubet wishing to see Urban in the hospital... that could always come back, but it's not a yearly issue and would appear to be a lesson learned at this point. People can keep talking about it, but it's just smack talk -- NFL teams trying to lure Harbaugh back will be real. Especially if he has any success.
