SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

The new president of U/M came from Brown University and has publically admitted that he knows virtually nothing about football. In November while Hoke was still coaching, Schlissel told a group to whom he was speaking that he was very concerned about the emphasis on sports, especially football and how U/M had such a low graduation rate of football players, that the school was admitting players who obviously couldn't handle the educational load etc. It caused an uproar and he ended up a couple of days later apologizing to Hoke.(Hoke had managed to increase the football programs graduation rate during his tenure a couple of points, it was reported he actually went to his players classes to ensure they were attending).
Additionally, Harbaugh had harsh words for Michigan when he was coaching Stanford about the low admission standards at U/M compared to Stanford. With Harbaugh's crazy sideline antics, his bizarre recruiting approaches(it is reported that he will ask for a spittoon when he arrives at a recruits home, as he is never without his can of Skoal), and his constant abrasive manner, I cannot see this as anything but a complete mess within a year. Entertaining, yes, but not helpful to Michigan or the Big Ten.

I honestly didn't see Michigan's dream of landing Jim Harbaugh becoming something they could turn into reality. I thought he had his sights set on a Super Bowl and the college game was something he wouldn't return to with other options on the table.

But I underestimated Harbaugh.

He's a great coach IMO, but the most glaring indictment of Jim Harbaugh is that the 49ers desire to do whatever it takes to part ways with him. The 49ers have literally selected "who the fuck knows" regarding their head coaching position over Harbaugh. Nobody is even throwing out names of replacements, and while they probably have a wish list, the possibility of returning a coach with one of the highest winning %'s in league history repulsed the organization so much that they will release Harbaugh and let him go to Ann Arbor.

Harbaugh could "bring Michigan back" but it won't be easy. He's shown ability to coach up QB's but he will literally need to be a miracle worker to make Shane Morris a QB. Can he recruit to Michigan? I do expect there will be fireworks with other coaches, so at least that should be exciting.

Nah, this one's on ice. Put your buddies on the plane and paint the endzones. Michigan is getting their beloved, whiny, asshole.

Harbaugh asked if he'll be the next coach at Michigan: "There will be announcements made."

Edit- adding this, no way there's a "mutual parting" if 49ers had a shot to trade him to another NFL team while under contract.

49ers and coach Jim Harbaugh will have a mutual parting, per source. No firing. No resignation. No trade. Free and clear to go anywhere.

People will say my hope is out of fear of Harbaugh, but my sole interest in all of this is the meltdown that will ensue if Harbaugh pulls off this troll job for the ages on the UM faithful.
What would be even better is if Harbaugh took the scUM job, then left after two years to take a premium NFL gig (New England?). At age 51 with unfinished business in the League, I can't see Harbaugh staying long-term at scUM.

Bingo. Considering Harbaugh's record, it's mind-boggling that the Niners would let him go. There must be some real [censored] Harbaugh carries with him. Even the dumbest fan base in America knows there are real red flags with their new coach.

He's shown ability to coach up QB's but he will literally need to be a miracle worker to make Shane Morris a QB.

Disagree with you here. Kaepernick isn't an appreciably better QB now than he was as a rookie.

I've got to believe that the Niners having him locked up for 2015 plus this being mutual parting of ways means that part of the deal was he wouldn't coach in the NFL for a couple years. In which case, he'll be back in the league by 2017 or 2018.

Harbaugh is fucked up to some degree, there is no doubt about it. However, take a look at the current and future management of the 49'rs. A 34 loaded rich kid, you think Harbaugh and this guy are going to get along?? No fucking way.

Harbaugh didn't seem to have any issues at Stanford w/AD's, commissioner's, etc. - at least that I'm aware of. In fact, he was a big part of getting Stanford officials to loosen up on a few academic standards in order to allow (just a few) additional football players, who were still very solid students, to be recruited and contribute on the team whom otherwise may not have made it. A big reason why they were so successful in his short time there.

I think Harbaugh will do well at UM, and the future battles btwn he and Urban should be awesome. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope he stays there for some time as I think Urban is here to stay as well.

This thread and the others like it are funny.

He's an asshole and may not be there long term? I mean, beyond being able to talk some shit does that really matter? Some people think Urban Meyer is an asshole and he might not be at Ohio State long-term... so what? Seems like a lot of people are straining to think of ways that this hire will be like another Rodriguez or Hoke. I don't see it. The guy is a formidable, name-brand coach with an actual track record who should be capable or returning them to Lloyd Carr-era levels.

I've always said that it's my job to hate scUM and root against them and it's their job to be a worthy rival to Ohio State in spite of my wishes. For the first time since 2006 or so it looks like they might be taking their role seriously. For that, I give them a hearty salute:
