Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

Everything the NCAA is doing/not doing is going to kill college sports. Not having some sort of guard rails on the money, unlimited transfers, and increasing scholarship limits to equal roster limits are all bad, but not counting JUCO against eligibility is the worst idea. It won't impact the elite players, but the typical players that would go to MAC schools are going to have to battle 20-year-olds that still have 5 years of eligibility for those roster spots or end up having to go the JUCO route themselves. All we need is for the average age of a CFB player to be 23. Maybe you'll end up with some non-NFL level guys ending their college career with a Masters after 6-7 years of college, but what about the stud 18-year-old that now has to play against full grown 25-year-olds?

The NCAA needs to go back to 5 years to play 4 and make scholarship offers contracts with buyouts rather than short-term NIL deals. An elite player could get a deal worth something like 3+ mil over 4 years. If they want to transfer the player or the school they transfer two would have to pay the buyout that is negotiated as part of the original deal. That way players would be more likely to stick with a program rather than jumping to a better opportunity every season.
They need collective bargaining or contracts. Cause Judges have declared open season on the NCAA and told them basically set any Guard rails on transfers and NIL and we'll see you here again. Now it seems they are about to declare open season on eligibility. They waited too long and got forced to open instead of doing it years ago on their own terms

This.

It’s not hard to see where all the eligibility limit relaxation is coming from. It’s likely going to go away.

Telling a guy you are out of eligibility is telling him he can’t earn money anymore. Sure, you can win that argument but they have no goodwill left. SCOTUS dropped the hammer and gave the “I don’t want to see you here again” type message n the closing arguments.

Players and agents are going push the envelope hard and win.

I am sure the professors love this shit.

Agreed.

That is why I keep saying that, at the highest level schools, it needs to be broken off from the Universities.

Ohio State football has nothing to do with the Ohio State University's mission anymore.

One is an institution of higher education and the other is a professional football organization. Only the brand name is the same and that can easily be worked out.

Yeah, this or just breaking the B1G and SEC from the other conferences. All of the issues that we all know that massive pains in the ass will not be corrected solely by presidents, ADs and commissioners. The US government has given a big middle finger to the NCAA and said this is your creation. If fans can’t see this isn’t the fault of the kids at all, then idk what to tell anyone. For the mismanagement and decades of fooling fans into the “student athlete” charade, I hope kids make millions for the billions that the NCAA made off of the past great players. I wish that guys like Archie Griffin, Keith Byars, Ted Ginn, Shawn Springs, Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell, etc etc etc could’ve earned NIL to the degree that these kids are now.

And if you read Dave Revisen’s book about the early days of college football you’ll find an errily similar situation, one where the schools kept key players well beyond their undergrad years.

Yes. But they're not technically in the ACC conference
They are ACC for everything except football and hockey.

I’d like to see the B1G get a couple more hockey programs (Oregon and U-Dub, maybe) and tell the Domers to take a hike.

And of course the conferences should all agree that no independents are allowed into the next CFP agreement.
