Shoelace and the Heisman - where's Denard finish?

Multiple ways to look at this one...

Dislocated/jammed/broken fingers...OL/DL, you never hear about it and you never notice how they continue to fire hands across the line. Ball security with your off-hand...eh, if the game was close, I see him playing. Even RichRod knew what was up at halftime.

Then again, I think RR sorta threw him under the bus unintentionally...that hand/wrist may have been broken at the time and it may come out that there is a fracture. Dislocating those middle fingers usually includes swelling on top of the hand and a shooting pain up the arm...guess what are the first signs of a break? I am not at all saying RR did that intentionally, but his simplification of the situation gave a perception to many fans and that camera shot did not help.

I know i am in the minority here, but calling the kid a pussy does go a bit overboard. RR has put that kid through physical hell this year by running him into the ground. I think Denard tapping out was basically telling RR "Fuck you buddy, I am hurt and I don't want to get killed today. I'm out."

At least that is the way I see it.

Saying fuck you to the coach and pulling yourself out of the game also says fuck you to the team.

I was disappointed that it went down the way it did. This is THE GAME. Do you know how much I wish I had the talent to even sniff the field on a college field, let alone play in that game? I would play until they knocked me out and dragged me off the field. It's an opportunity that few get to live, and he took himself out. That's disappointing.

Actually, some of the comments from players after The Game alluded to the fact that they were not "ALL IN" for RR anymore. I believe one said that they play for each other out there when asked about their thoughts on RRs future. So, I am leaning to the FU only to RR and not the team. Also, it could be looked at this way, he knew that the hand issue might cause another turnover or two, so the best thing for the team at that point is to not play and make matters worse rather than better.

I also agree that it was disappointing he didn't play the whole game, but the kid is only a soph. and will have a couple more chances to play in The Game in the future.

Meh, everyone is going to have their opinions on the subject one way or another, and this is just my IMO. :wink2:

I've asked around a little, and while no one will give out the exact injury, his hand was completely numb and was struggling to secure the football. He's also an unselfish guy who has watched Tate come in and spark the offense.

That's what I get as well. I know he's a skunkbear, but the hate does seem a tad over the top.

I still think he's too fragile to hold up to a B10 schedule...one that only gets worse with Nebraska coming in, but when he IS healthy, he's a talent.

Jwins, if you watch The Game again, you will see that he was shying away from contact for two series before he went out. He took some massive hits. It looked very much to me like he had had quite enough of that.

I think the kid is a class act. He speaks with real humility and seems like a good kid. Again, I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing and none of us know what his injury is...

It sure looked to me like he took himself out when he walked up to RichRod, showed him his hand, and then turned his back and walked away.

Considering his range of motion and activity on the sideline when that happened and afterward, I don't think that he had a break in his arm or anything other than dislocated fingers.

My oh my. Pussy or no, he's garnered a good deal of media love. I don't think he has a prayer of winning the Heisman -- or holding on to it with those fingers -- but I do think he'll get invited to New York and I hope he's able to steal another one from Notre Dame in the fall.

In a sport where too many coaches put injured kids back into games I'm willing to cut Robinson a good deal of slack.

Denard's last play before Forcier entered was him standing tall in the pocket and passing to Roundtree (broken up by Hines beautifully) with Bellamy crushing him during the throw...

Last Denard play before Forcier (on a different drive):

4th down: Denard standing tall in the pocket, getting crushed by Bellamy on his off hand during the throw. Accurate throw broken up brilliantly by Hines.

Previous Denard plays in order:

Rollout strike to Roundtree, broken up by Hines also.

Denard rush left, stepped out of bounds before contact.

Denard throws in pocket with two defenders closing in on him (rolle hitting him in chest after throw), accurate pass to Stonum between the defense.

That was the entire drive, other than a few designed handoffs to Shaw/Smith.

The announcers: "It looks like the trainers are telling him... NOPE"

That's my point. I'm not pegging the kid as a quitter and wuss over very subjective guesses, particularly not when he was hit and driven into the ground on exactly on the spot that he was holding, his mid forearm.

which pryor does about 90% of the time, if not more.

beanie takes himself out of games when he can play.

I'm not convinced he felt he could play, particularly not after the way he's played through injury all year long.
