Sharrif Floyd (official thread)

So is this a situation where he'll grab either the UF or OSU hat, then toss it aside for the one he didn't grab first? I think UF should not be allowed to even get Floyd. I can't imagine Powell, Easley, Floyd, Shaw, Riggs and possibly Hicks all in the same class:! Come to think of it, Hankins, Floyd, Bryant, Anderson, Turner, McVey and possibly Hicks sounds good too:biggrin:

Although not as late into the recruiting game as Boyd was.........I could see this developing into a Tajh Boyd situation. Does anyone else feel that way, or is it just me?

A big time talent that seemed headed elsewhere, all of a sudden becomes more interested - we go after them hard and we are in the lead, until the last minute.

I'd love to have him, his bull rush is about as highly touted as there's been in a few years, but I'm cautiously optimistic on him after seeing how well UF has closed. After they plucked Easley, I'm worried. The kid called Urban 15 minutes before the game and said he wanted in....they weren't even considered much of a threat before that, right out of the blue. There has been a lot of talk around their camps that Floyd is headed there way....I just have a feeling this might be Boyd 2.0, but I sure would love to eat crow on that.

I've had similiar feelings, but it's only a two way battle this time, IMO. I haven't heard much about UNC at all in this but heard a lot of rumblings about Floyd going to UF.

However, he did come out and say we were his leader not too long ago, so I honestly am very confused by this whole situation.

Let's hope you're wrong about that,if we can close with Floyd,Henderson,James and the other skill guys, IMO this would be the same type of blueprint for success that would rival successful SEC teams building dominant Offensive and Defensive lines

Boyd also wanted to play as a frosh and knew he wouldn't beat out TP. There's plenty of PT for Floyd next year even with Big Hank in the fold (who is a likely RS IMO). I'm guardedly optimistic but then again, I was highly optimistic for Joyner.

So glad Hankins committed, but even so... Don't you think Floyd would look at our depth chart and feel like as soon as he steps onto campus he would be in our 2 deep? I know elite players don't fear depth charts, but I would think our depth chart would have to be a positive in recruiting DTs this year. We rotate so many DLs, he could/would log a lot of playing time as a true freshman!!!

pure rampant unadulterated speculation: maybe he said it would be a surprise because of all the UF, UNC, USC rumors bouncing around the echo chamber. So he picks the bucks, squashing all those rumors, SURPRISE! (yeah, that's the ticket)

I like your positive thinking! "Surprise, I was never considering any team but OSU!"

This seems like a classic Sharrif Floyd situation. His recruitment reminds me of Sharrif's a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Almost as if recruitments of other kids from past years don't really have any influence whatsoever on him.

Eerie, that.

We can only hope the ending is the same as Floyd's.

I'm thinking (hoping) the "surprise" is picking us over the UF scout board saying he was a Gaytor, maybe thats what he saw and decided it would be a surprise move to pick us

Maybe Rivals convinced him to say that so that they can sell subscriptions.

Honestly, as someone said earlier, recruits like to hype their commitments. No use speculating.

I'm not a cliff jumper. I am a probabalist. Landing top rated recruits doesn't ensure titles, it just increases the probability. We develop whatever we get, but when you have classes like '08 and '09, it sure makes things easier. I'm not going to gripe and groan if we miss him though, just sayin' we've been down this road before, so bridle a bit of enthusiasm. Btw, Floyd wants to build suspense and I think Floyd will end up a Buckeye

Anyone else extremely nervous? I don't think I'll be able to sleep till Saturday night when I find out where this kid is going. When a guy like this already gets comparisons to Suh, he's going to be something special. Would really hope we can get him...
