Coveted DT recruit Floyd narrows list to four schools
NEW YORK (SI.com) -- Consensus top-10 football recruit Sharrif Floyd has narrowed his college choice to four schools: Ohio State, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Floyd, who is currently in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, will make his decision live during the national broadcast of the game. A source close to Floyd says that the star defensive tackle will have the four schools represented by hats on a table when he makes his decision on Saturday.
Over the past two months, Floyd has whittled his list down from about 10 schools, eliminating programs such as Boston College, Cincinnati, Penn State, Rutgers and USC.
Floyd originally made his mark at the U.S. Army National Combine this time last year. In the spring, he was named the MVP of the TEST Sports Clubs Premier Showcase, the deepest collection of combine talent in the mid-Atlantic region. He followed up that performance the next day by winning the Maxwell Award at the invite-only Football University outside Philadelphia. Since then, he has elevated his status to a consensus top-10 recruit nationally.
Floyd, who dominated the Aloha Prep Bowl before heading to San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, has recently been rumored to be an Ohio State lean. The player has taken three official visits this year to Florida, USC and Ohio State. The source close to Floyd said that the player is not willing to tip which hat he will put on come Saturday's all-star game.

East notebook: Intensity picks up
Adam Munsterteiger
East defensive line coach Otis Yelverton has tutored top defensive ends like Kevion Latham, who is at Penn State, and four-star defensive end Gabe King - who is set to announce at this Saturday's game.
But Yelverton is particularly excited about the group he has to work with in San Antonio this week, namely the defensive tackles.
Sharrif Floyd, the nation's top-ranked defensive tackle prospect, has impressed Yelverton both with his talent and his ability to overcome the odds.
"Sharrif Floyd is a very special young man," Yelverton explained. "Even when he tells you his story about his life, it's real touching that a kid is that focused and has that adversity which he's had in his life. You see other kid's take it for granted, what the Lord has given them - and not appreciate it like a kid who's gone through the things he's gone through.
"Some of the things he's shared with me, I'm very impressed with the young man. Whoever gets him, they're getting an outstanding young man."
