Sharrif Floyd (official thread)

Hey guys, even though I am usually in the thick of things (being a roomate to some players), I haven't contributed on recruiting for a while. I apologize.

Anyways, I talked to Jordan Whiting today and he just told me that Shariff had a great time on his visit. One thing Jordan told me that sounded great was when he stated " I was suprised that Shariff called me back after only two days. Usually I never hear from a recruit until after the second day." He calls Jordan on a regular basis and Jordan is confident that we can land him. I asked him if he thinks Shariff was coming and he shook his head yes.....

Go bucks!

And that you (and Jordan especially) are right!!

While I am very happy with the progress we have all seen lately with some of our DTs, it certainly has been a position of need here, and having Floyd on board would be HUGE towards continuing the tradition of lots of BCS bowl games we have had recently.

Tressel, Ohio State impress with talk of collecting national titles
Picture perfect.

On Thursday, class pictures will be taken at George Washington High and of course I need to look good. After all, this is going to be the photograph that everyone in my family will hang on their wall and stuff in their wallet. A man has to look good for his senior portrait.

I'll tell you what, though, Ohio State was quite a picture last weekend.
What I really liked was their defense and the scheme they use. They put their defensive tackle in a hybrid type of scheme, varying between straight up clogging the middle and also playing wide as an end. It would use my bull rush and speed. I think I could get some big numbers in a system like that.

Coach Jim Tressel makes no promises and what he demands is hard work and effort. I like to think I bring that every day. His honesty was cool.
He told me that he collects two things and he needs my help to continue his collection. The first thing he wants me to help him get is another championship ring. Every year, the Buckeyes challenge for a national title and coach told me that they think I can help them get another one.

The second collectible is a game ball from each of his NFL first-round picks. Coach Tressel told me that he thinks if I work hard, there is no reason I can't give him another one.

Talk about goose bumps.

Next weekend, I might head to Penn State for an unofficial visit. The Nittany Lions play the Buckeyes and it should be a crazy game and a full white-out.

And I want to end with this with my top five. Can I have a drum roll please?

In no particular order, they are: Florida, Ohio State, North Carolina, South Carolina and USC.

We'll see which one of these is picture perfect.

Taking an unoffical to PSU to watch the OSU game and PSU isn't in fis final list of schools. Interesting, very very interesting. I hope the d line rips it up that game.
How can you not love everything he said in that SI recruiting diary.

PSU already has 2 DT's in their recruiting class. They are close to filling up and may have other needs. Florida and South Carolina also have a DT commit in each of their classes. We offer him the best shot at playing time with 2 seniors graduating.

PSU nor Florida nor South Carolina would turn down Sharrif if he wanted to commit, getting playing time against those other DT's would not be his main concern (at least I don't think it would).

But you are right, especially with John Simon getting so much PT as a freshman that's got to be exciting for big Shariff.

A good friend of mine is close to the PSU staff. He said they may not have room. His late decision will hurt PSU. You are right though, you always make room for a stud. I hope the Bucks land him.

Anybody have an insight on Mr. Floyds academic chops?

Not to be a profiler but the somewhat late offer and the fact his body composition scream "SEC", had me concerned.

I assume they feel good about him gaining admission now, but I don't want to sweat it out.

PS - I have no idea what his reported gpa/test scores are.

If that does not work out, he could always move to guard. He has a solid get-off and can be tough to move off the ball. He is able to come out of his stance, generate some power and does a pretty good job at taking on and even defeating double teams. He will flash the ability as a big man to be able to turn his hips, get skinny and slip past a blocker. He moves well for a big man and can be disruptive, but really seems at his best eating up blockers and pushing forward. He does need to work on using his hands to separate and being able to work across the face of a blocker. As a pass-rusher he is a bull rush guy. On offense, he can create push and moves his feet well enough to reach the defender. Does a solid job of being able to work up to the second level. Floyd is a good prospect on both sides of the ball and that gives some added value. If defense does not work out, you could still get production from him on offense.

I think that Worthington and Heyward could teach him a few things about using his hands to separate from the blocker. Both seem to excel at that this year.....

Nitts Picks Is Peaking At The Wrong Time
by Kevin HD on Oct 28, 2009 2:01 PM EDT

Someone isn't understanding the point of an "unofficial visit." In what has become rare bad news about the upcoming recruiting class, Sharrif Floyd announced a top-5 in some type of journal on SI and left Penn State off the list. What's strange, though, is that he wants to make a visit for the Penn State-Ohio State game:
Next weekend, I [as in Floyd --ed] might head to Penn State for an unofficial visit. The Nittany Lions play the Buckeyes and it should be a crazy game and a full white-out. And I want to end with this with my top five.

For starters: someone isn't reading their daily-Daily Collegian. Ohio State isn't "a full white-out," and not even a fun alternative like "stupid tie-die shirt you bought at the FCL for $8 day."
Also, are you allowed to make a visit to a school to see another team play? Someone ask the caring is creepy experts.
