Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

Yep, shAggy is going to wake up one of these days, after Oklahoma bails on them, look in the mirror, and realize that they are the real "little brother" in the Texas/Aggy relationship.

I made my prediction earlier. ESPN will push them hard to go to the SEC! so they can fold that albatross network into the SECN, but I think Texas just keeps cobbling the B12 back together with fresh rounds of mid-majors. Remember, it's not just their fanbase but the entire institution at its highest levels that is obsessed with always being seen to "swing the big dick." I just don't think they could bare the blow to their ego of giving up the LHN dream and following OU into the SEC.

And in the greatest of ironies, their own research may have shown why they underperform on an institutional level. If there's one benefit to what Jim Rhodes did to Ohio State in the 60s and 70s, it's that it made the university hungry to the core of its institutional culture and unwilling to take anything for granted to this day. I'll take a little looking over our shoulder insecurity as a motivating factor than sitting around in smug complacency and constantly telling the world about our "big swinging dick" any day.

You know how you meet a guy who is really weird and does all sorts of fucked up shit? And you're like, "what the fuck is wrong with this guy?" And then you meet his family and they all seem perfectly normal? His older brother was the captain of the football team and valedictorian. Everyone loves his older brother and raves about how perfect he is. Then one day, you read in the newspaper that the older brother has been arrested for molesting kids and you realize, damn....that probably happened to the younger brother and suddenly it all makes sense. Younger brother never had a damn chance at being normal. I mean, you still really don't want to hang out with that guy because he's still fucking weird as shit....but you do start to feel bad for all the shit he's gone through.

I save my pity for the sheep. They didn't have a choice in the matter.

The craziest thing is the amount of rage and anger that I'm seeing. There were maybe two funny comments in my negative rep, and I actually gave those guys positive rep in return. Not giving anyone negative rep, btw. The overwhelming number of the comments, however, are along the lines of FU, GTFO, "you two-faced pussy." It's as if they are both cognitively incapable of understanding how somebody could enjoy the shag without bowing down to the greatness of all things UT and taking this "betrayal" by an anonymous interweb poster on a deeply personal level.

You guys are starting to say things you can't take back. Yes, Texas fans are insufferable compared to how [Mark May]ty Texas actually has been without Vince Young.....but aTm? There's nothing those freaks do that is normal. They really weird me out.

Look, nobody's advocating that freakshow into the Big Ten. It's simply recognizing that they wouldn't have caused the problems that UT would inevitably cause. Nobody's looking to see fake armies and jizz jars in the Big Ten.

Seems more and more SEC adds Choklahoma... maybe with Kansas to have a West Div patsy / Basketball school counter to Kentucky.
Ultimately I think Boren's and OU's resolve will be tested over the Okie State issue. PAC is probably the only one willing with room for little brother, and PAC wants UT in there too.

I'm terribly amused by Oklahoma and Texas fans sucking off the SEC though. Reading the posts from fans that think if either one goes the SEC and the other doesn't it's Armageddon for the team that didn't go. It's like college football isn't cyclical and such. Also It's kind of funny watching the BigXII homers and the ACC Honks fight over who's conference is gonna die first. Along with mixing in delusions that the ACC or BigXII has options that would allow them to approach the 2 Kings of the SEC and the Big10.

Honestly the most likely way this shakes out is the SEC and Big10 stay the 2 Kings. The PAC12 and ACC end up a tear below and the BIGXII's corpse becomes the equivalent of the AAC if they don't join the AAC. The Big10 and SEC aren't taking anyone they don't want. It's funny to watch fan put situations where the PAC12/ACC/SEC wins only to Put ISU and KSU in the Big10 cause of midwest "reasons". Or situations where the SEC has WVU, OSU or YCU/Baylor join without OU or UT. Both conferences would stick with what they have and tell the also rans to buzz off.

I always get a kick out of the ACC guys bashing "BUG" football as they call it. I think they went on 10 pages trying to compare teams top to bottom and equating Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota to the likes of Wake and Iowa State.
The ACC is the worst football conference by far. Hell the real Big* has probably been better than the fraud BXII even through that horrible period of SECSECSEC.

If one does go to the SEC, it does leave the other in a weaker position. The PAC would probably still take the other - but I get the impression that Texas will run out that LHN contract even if they have to play an all-Texas schedule with Rice, Houston, Lamar, etc. ESPiN dug their own grave on that one.

*press has been using that monicker since the 1910s

I guess it's true for some people.

In fairness to them, I'd say that you've gone pretty well beyond merely not "bowing down to the greatness of all things UT". And you've certainly bashed them pretty mercilessly here while mostly being "hail fellow, well met" over there: That sort of thing was the genesis of my disgust for Herbstreit ("I'm all Buckeye" on Columbus local media vs. lead the charge for "mothership" OSU bashing nationally), so I get why they're put out.

It's also not exactly abnormal for alums or fans of a school to defend it from outsiders even when among themselves they're at least partly in agreement with the criticism: They're certainly aware that Steve Patterson is a grad A asshat and fuckup, that they've been underachieving on the field for a while, and that their administration generally has problems.

As for their "excessive" reaction to you, unless there's a Bevo Yacobacci on your tail, it doesn't seem that over the top: I suspect that you overestimate the anger and underestimate the general Shaggy cultural values of using profanity and not taking crap in the responses, although I'll concede that they often display far more of what they would call "bitchasedness" than I'd expect. If you'd been trolling all along rather than mostly adding a lot of value (like the "shit I've cooked lately" thread and the often witty PSU bashing) and then suddenly deciding to surprise them by going out in some Juicy-style blaze of glory, I suspect that the reaction wouldn't be as strong.

By the way, I post as "aesculus glabra" over there (don't really like my handle here, but I'd had it forever on other boards so I kept it here).

All you need to know about the ACC is that they were regularly getting their ass handed to them by the Big East in the Orange Bowl.

....after Miami & VPI changed allegiance.

I disagree to a certain extent. All of the stuff that caused their uproar in this thread I addressed numerous times over there: the schoolgirl crush on Michigan, comical overestimation of their place in the academic pecking order, belief that their rightful place is atop the college football universe being completely at odds with the last 3+ decades of their history and just general Texas arrogance. Respectful of being on their board, I didn't belabor the points, wasn't an asshole about it and knew when to make my points and then drop it. So the only difference in what they found here was one of emphasis and tone. And the fact that it was here on the outside, I believe was almost doubly a sin in their eyes. I've stated this several times here that I believe that legendary Texas (both state and university) hubris and arrogance is borne as much in a deep insecurity about how the outside world views them as it is in actual pride. Nobody truly confident and secure about their place in the world thumps their chest the way Texans do. As Walter Payton said, "if you're good, you tell everybody about it; if you're truly great, they tell you."

In any event, and as I mentioned, I was reaching a SAW level of burnout on the shag anyways. Wading through the 90% of banal big dick swinging to get to the actual 10% of the site that made it interesting was getting annoying and worse boring. This was a blessing in disguise, as it was time to walk away and the decision was made easy.....and amusing.

In any event, I'm sure that they are--like a bunch of angry woodchucks gnawing on a petrified stump--still slowly chipping away at my rep. At the rate they're going, Texas football will be relevant again before they manage to ban me.

I think I hurt their fee fees when I said that they were as lacking in self awareness as Ped State. So Sorry. I don't post over there, so they can't neg me. :(
I went looking for whatever thread you said this in over there, without much luck. What I did find is this thread...where they think the 2005 team is the best to ever play football. A team that we basically beat except for playing our best QB for only half the game and Ryan Hamby dropping the winning TD.

I hate losing as much as everybody....but I'll forever hate losing that game more than any other. We were better than them that night.
