Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

First off, you didn't say this to another person. Let's acknowledge that right now.
Secondly, this isn't how the rest of the country views Texas. It's how people who only get brave and mouthy on message boards view Texas.

He goes by burnteyes on the shag. Lived in Chicago; just moved back to Texas. UT grad. He's a good guy and a friend. We just disagree on the state of Texas and have had a few spirited discussions about it. Would I say this to a total stranger or a professional acquaintance? No.

So first off, let's acknowledge that you have no idea what you're fucking talking about!

This is how pretty much everyone here in New York views Texas. I would disagree about San Antonio, though - I visited there 20 years ago, and thought it was nice.

First off, @ORD_Buckeye is the guy who set up a phony Ped State resignations rally that got a few hundred mongoloids to show up before turning the tides on their inbred asses.

Secondly, that absolutely is how most states view Texas - and this is how some Texans who are transplants from other areas of the country but have to live there (either for military or work) view Texas.

Houston: a complete [Mark May]hole; the worst big city in America
Dallas: nicer than Houston but just a big, bland, sprawling, monotonous generic city. A larger Minneapolis but without the cultural institutions--sorry, rodeo museums and Presidential assassination sites don't count.
San Antonio: Is that still part of America?
Austin: cool. Nobody denies that, but it's viewed as an island of cool floating in a sea of [Mark May].
Small Town Texas: this is where black people get dragged to death behind pickup trucks, right?

This didn't go over well.
Houston: sprawling, humid, and in many ways miserable, but with some really cool neighborhoods (Southampton, Montrose, Rice Village), underrated restaurants and a phenomenal economy.
Dallas: A larger Minneapolis with a hell of a lot better weather. And to be honest, a better symphony and art museums.
San Antonio: Meh.
Austin: Seriously cool, and the nearby Hill Country is gorgeous, with lots of outdoor activities.

Not surprising, though, that someone who lives in the windy, frigid shithole on Lake (gag) Michigan would express his jealousy over a superior place to live in the manner you just did.

...but their face when I said that I have had better in Ohio

Baumbach's. Literally five minutes from the highway at the I-70/US-40 Richmond interchange on the Indiana/Ohio border, located in a one stop sign town of New Paris, OH. You need to eat there several times before you die, just to sample everything.

Order the fries with rib rub. They're worth murdering someone for.

Thanks! I usually ending up eating at all the Cracker Barrels along the way but I'll check this out next time I drive across I70.

It's different. Its difficult to compare them for me, having lived in the South most of my life.... I love me some pull pork and I love me some brisket done right.... Brisket is harder to cook but when done right its pretty damn good.

Agreed.
I've never been a huge fan of the vinegar based BBQs. Some are good, and I have more than my share to pick from. Give me a good KC or Texas type any day of the week versus vinegar.
