I keep hearing he is making them in practice or warm-ups....what is the difference in the games? One big difference.
He could be rushing his shot. I really don't know and I think most of us are guessing. I am not a shooting coach although I have taken my number of shots:wink2:. I guess I will just wait to his shots start to fall. They eventually will... won't they.

Good question...I hope so! I think we all just need to give the kid some time. Not everyone can step on the floor as a frosh and be an impact player. A lot of us thought Jon could be that type of player because of his amazing high school success. But...maybe he just needs some time to settle down and get comfortable.

Shooting takes skill and practice. But it's also hugely (is that a word?) mental. He's a freshman...no time to panic yet.

I think that Jon is having problems with the speed of the college level. Some guys can adapt quicker than others. I don't think that he is used to having a guy in his face right when he catches the ball. This leads to him rushing shots.
There were some of us who said this very thing right after he first signed and was still playing in high school. It has happened and we just have to wait for Jon to get going.

And you make a good point about the time in which he has to get his shot off...I think that along with his ability to just let it go and not worry about it, are the two things that are really effecting his shooting game...

Did Jon make a lot of shots off the dribble in high school or is he a spot up shooter?

I've noticed that he doesnt work his shot much and some others on here have mentioned him not dribbling much. If he gets his 3 on an open look spotting up he takes it, if he has to dribble to open it up he wont shoot but rather pass the ball, if he dribbles at all. Is this typical of his play or is this a new development at the college level? I'd like to see him take his man off the dribble from time to time and pull up on him. It takes confidence and control to make those shots most of the time and Jamar Butler is the best I've seen do it in a long time. It also gets you into a rhythm to go up like that. The spot up shooters are one dimensional and if the shot isnt falling, sometimes a liability. I'd like to see Jon work his shot more often and shoot off the dribble. Any thoughts regarding his mechanics or history on this topic?

right now he isnt playing with a shot that has great rythmn, he also is floating from time to time. he needs to get his feet and body set and go through his shot.

on the dribble vs the pass, what is faster a dribbler or a pass. you can smoke teams with passing and beat them with a dribble. that being said jon has begun to get a tad passive in attacking something we saw earlier, that being said earlier jon had guys flying out to cover him, he put the ball on the floor and went by the guy. right now the guy is already out on jon, so its pretty hard to beat a guy if he is in your jock. if he wont let you put the ball on the floor it is hard to beat the guy. that being said he still is stretching the defense, thus to me he is still effective even at his current clip. most of these coaches realize hes one or two from being hot, hes the kind of player that can go 5-6 pr 6-8 and burn you.

i like what i saw defensively last night with turner and diebler.

Diebler scored 5 points and grabbed 2 rebounds last night vs PSU.....a step in the right direction, but he still seems to be falling off of his shot and off balance on most attempts in my opinion.

Matta mentioned in the post game interview that Diebler was playing great defense.

He was very active in the zone against PSU. He got his hands on a lot of balls (pun not intended).

couldn't agree more. im not putting any pressure on him for the rest of the season, so maybe he can find his groove for tourny time.

I agree somewhat. In order to advance we need to have excellent games from 3 of the 4 backcourt players (Butler, Turner, Lighty, Diebs). Butler, Turner, and Lighty aren't going to all have great games every night...and that is when we need Diebler to step up.
