SG Jon Diebler (2nd-Most Big Ten career 3-Pointers, Butler Recruiting Director)

I agree I have never seen the limitations...I think most of the rotating problems in the zone come from big guys losing track of guys on the wing when the ball is rotated from one side to the other...

No one has really been beat off the dribble much in the zone...

do you think he really has a quickness limitation? or is it that hes white?
C'mon, jo, if you paid attention to my posts you know I have no prejudice. Plenty of white athletes (Jason Williams, Mike Dunleavy, others) are plenty quick, and plenty of black athletes (Ivan Harris, Manute Bol, others) are not. Diebs has a quickness deficit relative to, say, Evan Turner and Dave Lighty (and to Mike Conley Jr, but then so does everyone relative to MCJr). You can disagree if you like, but I see it.

Doesn't mean Diebs cannot be effective on D, as he has proven many times, just that he has to use other tools. (Also, it's foot quickness I speak of, since I think his hand quickness is phenomenal.)

Diebler is finally starting to remind me of the guy from last year who had a very nice stroke from three-point line. He needs to continue his improved shooting for this team to make a run at the tournament. DL is not doing much from the outside so Diebler is really needed. I am happy for him am unlike to know where all of his bashers have to say now or will they just wait.

Diebs played well Sunday...I thought Matta missed the golden oppurtunity to get him in the game right at the under 16 timeout in the second half...turner and Lighty were struggling and Diebs had played a good first half...I think then Evan had a to and we got back down 9 or something...

WIth that said it was odd as many have mentioned after he made his first and missed his second that he got scared to shoot for a couple possessions, but what I will say is that he was penetrating the gaps, but wasn't making the right passes...He understands the game...Trys to do too much at times and thinks to much at times...Just needs to continue to play within himself and he will be fine...

Just hope he continues to play well and doesn't go back to struggling...We need him along with the other guys for the last 7 games of the regular season...

OSU men's basketball
For Diebler, offense grows with his defense

Freshman Jon Diebler's scoring is up because he has got his feet planted firmly on the ground.

There are seven spots around the arc that Jon Diebler visits most days after practice. How long he spends at each is up to him. "I have to make eight of 10 threes to move on to the next spot," he said. "If I don't, I have to do that spot over."
This has been going on for a while in the Schottenstein Center.
"The number of shots the guy has taken after practice doubles anybody else in college basketball, I guarantee it," said Archie Miller, who in his first season as an Ohio State assistant has spent hours coaching Diebler after practice and at other times Diebler wants to work on his game.
"He's a gym rat," said Miller, who, like Diebler, is the son of a high school coach. "He embraces coaching. He embraces getting better. He doesn't care how bad he shot it or how well, or whether we won or lost. His mind-set is to get better."
The dividends might be starting.

Diebler is playing well enough that I'd almost prefer to see him starting over Lighty, who is struggling right now.
Thought the same thing after the Northwestern game but I don't think that Thad will change the starting lineup this late in the season. Maybe substitute earlier but not change the starters.

My thoughts as well...It was mentioned in the NW game thread...Diebler brings spark off the bench...Especially with his shooting...

It's great to see Diebs growing in confidence at the right time of the year. He is playing with more confidence now, even after misses than at any time of the year (IMO) I think it's because he knows the Bucks don't need a huge game from him to win, just a solid contribution.

If he can keep helping out by scoring some buckets and being a deep threat to the opposition, as well as a solid defender from the zone, it should really help the Bucks in their quest for the Big Dance.

Hopefully he gets smokin in one (or more) of our remaining big games against the teams ahead of us in the standings and helps us get a couple "signature" wins.

I thought I'd give Jon's thread some love. One thing that we've kind of been lacking has been passing into the interior, and JD did that pretty well tonight. That pass that led to KK's dunk did my heart good. I don't know of any else has posted about it or not..but Diebler also draws quite a bit of charges. I'm just so happy after the win tonight I might just post a lovefest like this one for every buckeye.

He did play well for the time he was in the game. Lavin said that Jon's shot seems flat at times and I tend to agree. I almost can tell if his shot is going to ripple the nets when it is in the air. Just keep shooting because they're going to fall.
