SG Jon Diebler (2nd-Most Big Ten career 3-Pointers, Butler Recruiting Director)

I like the young man's game generally, but if he doesn't start hitting the J he must sit.

That may be possible on a team with other options. The issue with tOSU is their lack of a bench.....they need someone to pick up the bench scoring and so far Twigs is the only option on a consistent basis. Matta has started to shrink his bench already. My personal opinion is that Matta has no choice at this point but to play him and hope he plays through his struggles. I still maintain he will be fine. To early to call him great and to early to call him a "bust"......

He is a freshman on a team with a lack of senior leadership......

As a Couple People have said give Diebler some time. No one can shoot like that in high school and lose it all in eight months. Everybody is trying to analyze what is wrong with him and as some have said he just needs some time to adjust. Why don't we just lay off of him for a while or quite a few of us will be eating our words:wink2:

Agree with every word and hope that I'm personally working with a big bowl and spoon very soon...just for my thoughts.

I think it's just about the fear of letting his family and all of us down that is keeping him mired. Let it go, buddy, we're all rooting for you, big time!

Sorry if this is a repeat of old news and sentiment.

Jim Jackson's analysis

During the halftime of the Minnesota game, Jim Jackson said on the Big 10 network halftime show that he thought Diebler was having problems with his shot because he was having to adopt to catch and shoot while in high school he was in control of the ball (dribbling) before he took a shot.

This opinion has been expressed on this board also......I watched Diebs play a ton of games in high school and he had the ball in his hands most of the time, this allowed him to get his rythm and I think it has been an adjustment to just catch and shoot.

When I watch Jon shoot the ball so far this year, the main difference I can see from his senior year in HS is his mechanics seem less fluid and more rushed and his follow thru seems jerky to me. I think this is a result of just the speed of the game at the D-1 level combined with his lack of confidence has made him rush his shot some.......

I think that Jon is having problems with the speed of the college level. Some guys can adapt quicker than others. I don't think that he is used to having a guy in his face right when he catches the ball. This leads to him rushing shots.

It is all in his mechanics and it starts with his feet or his base......followed by squaring to the basket and keeping the elbow in and following through with the shot....his feet seem "happy" to me and his follow through is not as fluid as last year......as stated, most likely a by product of the defense in his face and the speed of the game at the D-1 level.

Now that I think about it I have to agree with JO, I think sometimes he is on his heels when he catches the ball and tries to shoot. He is not on the balls of his feet all of the time when he is shooting.

Who is tho all the time...Good shooters account for that...He is just missing his shots...

I still think the main thing with him is getting used to shooting through a slump while only taking 2-3 shots per game compared to the 20+ he was taking in high school...

The form is there, he is either short long or right there...Watch him in warm ups and he is knocking them down left and right, and same with practice...It is there it is just a matter of time before they start going down with consistency...

I keep hearing he is making them in practice or warm-ups....what is the difference in the games? One big difference....the speed in which he needs to get his shot off and the size of the defenders in his face.......good point about the amount of shots.
