Quote of the game:

"Diebler was hit in the nose - and that's the one he broke."

i was at the game and i can definitely say they were letting them play. alot of fouls were not called, especially against diebler. at points he was being completely mauled. to tell you the truth i have no idea how upper was in that game the whole way, they were out-rebounded something like 50 to 20 and if not for cold shooting streak at the end of the game, they had it. they were up 6 with 4 minutes to play. the game basically came down to the fact that dunbar had 3 D-1 prospects on the court, not including anthony oden, and upper is a one man gang. anyway, either way, that was the best high school game i've ever seen, so much emotion and heart was involved. that should be expected though, state final and all. great game, diebler will be an absolute stud threat from three point range for the buckeyes for years to come.

Diebler is the best pure shooter I have seen in HS......he has some growing to do for next year but the one thing you can't measure is a kid's desire to win and his heart.....Diebler has a bunch of desire and a huge heart.....he will do great things at tOSU......I am looking forward to it.

Upper Sandusky falls in state title game
The Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? In a game of streaks, Dayton Dunbar got hot at the right time to take home its second consecutive state title.
Joshua Benson scored 16 points and hit the game-tying and go-ahead shots late in the game and Dunbar defended its Division II state title, overcoming a record-setting performance by Ohio Mr. Basketball Jon Diebler to beat Upper Sandusky 87-85 Saturday. Benson?s putback with 3:04 left started a six-point run to tie the game at 80. He followed that with a layup to put the Wolverines (24-4) ahead for good 82-80.
Diebler, bothered throughout the second half by a broken nose, scored 48 points to top the Division II record of 38 points set by Akron Manchester?s Mike Phillips in 1974. The 48 points were the third-highest in the state tournament, trailing only Jerry Lucas who had 53 in 1956 and Clark Kellogg with 51 in 1979.

Diebler is very good.
But, Burson and Hornyack were better shooters!
both those guys came quickly to mind for me.

but diebler has range. im not talking getting in the gym range. im not talking getting off the bus range. im talking from upper to the schott type range. as a soph his range was "unlimited" he literally is a threat as soon as he crosses half court with the ball.

I have seen all three of these guys play and neither Burson or Hornyak had the range that Diebler possesses In fact, I don't think it is even close.

Allen was a pure shooter from 15-18 but I never saw him take a 25 foot jump shot like Diebler. I think Jay was more of a scorer then a pure jump shooter like John. Diebler shoots his jumper ihe same way every time. It makes no difference if he is 15 feet from the basket or 25 feet.

I watched Diebler in both the semis and finals...

And for all those that say he has range that is so very true...His one shot he hit, he was standing on the V on the court for the Value city arena logo...

His one stretch in the finals where he hit 2 3's and had 2 layups and then that alleyoop dunk that just brought the house down was something to see...

Overall the 3 times he has played here he has not has his greatest shooting performances and you could tell that his nose was bothering him this week, but he gutted it out and played as hard as he could...

With a little muscle to his frame he is going to see the court next year just for his jumper. Butler, Cook, and Butler will be able to stretch the D and allow the big guys inside(hopefully Oden) to get single coverage or allow guys like Conley and Lighty to be able to penetrate and get into the lane...

I got to see him twice on TV this year. The game against shelby when he had 40 in the first half was the most impressive display of shooting I've ever seen.
I heard from someone that was at the schot this weekend that Jon's dad was going to get a job with the athletic department next year. he was going to be working with the Football team in some aspect. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

In addition to Diebler's shooting capability, I think that when he comes to Ohio State he will become much better defensively. He is tall and gangly which always makes a very good defender.

Also, I think he is a pretty good ball handler. One of the plays that stands out for me was during the final against Dunbar was when he went full speed about 3/4 court and dribbled behind his back and went through two defenders for a layup.

I also think you would have less pressure on him so his FG% will go up because you would not have to take 30' shots like he had to for his high school team. I can't think that there are many high school players who can shoot the ball as well as he can.

I agree with all of this...People that criticize his defense just see that he is the last line of defense of the press and a lot of times he is in a 2 on 1 situation.

I also saw that behind the back play which made my jaw drop to the floor.

Also once he gets integrated into an offense and is not the 1st or 2nd option and can spot up on the perimeter without having to get his own shot everytime off the dribble he could be very deadly.

Both him and Turner play the point in their high school systems and both will play off the ball, but both will be able to help with beating pressure in the back court and bringing the ball up the floor if need be. Probably not much need next year with Conley and Butler, but the year after with the young guys Crater and Offut a need could arise...
