KYLE ROBERTSON Dispatch

A bleeding, broken nose didn't stop Jon Diebler from setting a record with his 48-point effort.

The son was too tired to bend down, so his mother kneeled on the concrete to help.

Basketball has always been a family affair in the Diebler house, so here in the bowels of Value City Arena, the mother did what she could.
She peeled away a Velcro strap and slid Jon Diebler's knee brace down his right leg.
He stood ramrod straight, all 6 feet 7 of him. A bloody piece of cotton protruded from his right nostril. He looked sad, exhausted and in pain, with dark circles under his eyes from a broken nose.

Lets not forget that Diebler will not be the focus or main scorer at Ohio State......this will give him plenty of opportunities to knock down open shots from the perimeter.....he is a piece of the puzzle.
A piece of the puzzle is correct. and I don't expect him to even try to be the big star. Just imagine though for a min that you are in the crowd the night he puts up 50 on tsun...the roaring , estatic , mind blowing crowd ... just once...:)

Ohio State basketball recruit Jon Diebler of Upper Sandusky has been named Gatorade's state boys player of the year.

Diebler becomes a finalist for Gatorade's national player of the year award, which will be announced later this month.

He averaged 41.2 points and 12.3 rebounds in leading Upper Sandusky to the state championship game. Diebler, who won the Ohio Mr. Basketball award, set a state career scoring record this winter and finished with 3,208 career points.

likely will eventually slide into harris' designated shooter role imo.

I don't think he will be a designated shooter like Harris. Diebler has more ballhandling skills than Ivan possessed during his tenure. Jon is just more of a complete player IMO

ya but, better because, he's a slasher/driver to

ivan could get to the rack when he opted to. look at humphries this weekend. the kid was lethal. 27 feet or so, feet set, ball and its in. i mean count it no questions. then if you dont close out on humphries properly ball on the floor and hes to the rack. what im saying is his shoot will set up his game.

when diebler becomes effective also will be interesting. its hard to count your eggs before they hatch. i think of some of the greatest shooters ive seen at the college level and most of them struggled. (burson is one of the better jump shooters and look at his frosh year)

it will be interesting to see how jon develops and how the coaches choose to use diebler as a frosh and as he grows.

Diebler scores 31, Lauderdale 28 in a 127-122 victory for the North in the Division I/II North-South Game.

Donnie Madzia rose from the bench as the midpoint of the second half approached at Sunday's Division I/II boys Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association North-South all-star game at Capital University.

Madzia walked to the end of the bench where Solon's Dallas Lauderdale sat. At the end of a short discussion, a dead ball occurred and Lauderdale walked onto the court to join Upper Sandusky's Jon Diebler.

"We wanted to get the OSU connection out there," said Madzia, coach of Harrison Central.

Behind the two Ohio State recruits, North won, 127-122.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Although two or three members of Thad Matta's heralded 2006 recruiting class are headed to greener pastures, Ohio State basketball fans need not have a cow. Reinforcements are on the way. Incoming freshmen Jon Diebler of Upper Sandusky and Dallas Lauderdale of Solon held court in the Ohio North-South All-Star Division I-II game yesterday at Capital University.
Diebler scored 31 points, including five three-point shots, and Lauderdale made 13 of 14 shots from the field en route to a 28-point, eight-rebound effort as the North overtook the South 127-122. Each played 24 minutes.

If he can be a sharpshooter like this next year it's going to make it very interesting for other teams next year.

I'm getting more and more excited for this draft class. I think they are capable of great things.

Shooter Diebler looks to fill in blanks
Wednesday, November 21, 2007Doug LesmerisesPlain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- A year ago, Jon Diebler would have scored 82 points by now. At the moment, he has 6.

The nation's leading scorer as Ohio's Mr. Basketball at Upper Sandusky High, Diebler didn't enter his freshman season at Ohio State expecting to match his 41.2 points a game average. For example, the man he passed as Ohio's all-time leading scorer, Jay Burson, scored 5.9 points per game as an OSU freshman 22 years ago.

"It's not a big deal. Scoring was never an issue for me," Diebler said.

But he's not in Ohio State's starting lineup for his defense and rebounding. Entering to night's semifi nal of the NIT Season Tip-off against Syra cuse at Madi son Square Gar den, the Buckeyes (2-0) and coach Thad Matta haven't seen their of fense in full effect because it hasn't included Diebler burying open 3-pointers on the wing.

He's 1-of-10 for the season, 1-of-9 on 3-pointers, so the advice from senior point guard Jamar Butler so far? "Keep shooting."

"I know I can hit those shots," Diebler said. "Coach keeps telling me that you're going to hurt the team worse if you don't shoot it because you have to make the defense respect you. If the defense sits back in a zone and thinks we don't have to guard him, my guy can help on Kosta [Koufos] or Jamar. I have to help everyone around me get open looks."
