Div. II Spotlight: Jon Diebler, Upper Sandusky

Thursday, March 22, 2007

There might be something, someday that keeps Jon Diebler from playing the game he loves. A badly broken nose could not do it in Upper Sandusky's 91-81 victory over Olmsted Falls in a Division II boys basketball regional championship game on Saturday.
Diebler was down on the court for 20 minutes in the fourth quarter after suffering the injury while doctors tried to stop the bleeding from his nose and mouth. He returned minutes later, wearing a face mask, his nose packed with gauze, to lead the Rams back to the final four.
Diebler, the Ohio high school career-scoring leader, said there was no way he was sitting out the rest of the game.

Clash of styles defies stereotypes

Dunbar plays physical half-court game; Upper Sandusky plays run-and-gun

DAYTON ? One team is inner-city, all black. The other team is rural countrified, all white.
One team runs and guns with hyper shot-clock urgency, scoring 94.8 points per game. The other team favors a slowdown, pound-it-inside, half-court game.
One team presses the bejabbers out of opponents, seemingly running on plenty. The other team plugs its middle oak solid with superior height and girth.
You know where this is going. When Dunbar and Upper Sandusky square off in today's 2 p.m. Division II boys state basketball championship, it'll be a classic clash of stereotype programs.

Diebler finished with 48 in a losing effort, 87-85.

Dunbar got away with a few fouls on him that can only be described as muggings. Straight shots right into his already broken nose, none of which were called as fouls.

Regardless, Diebler will be a great player at tOSU. He certainly has no fear of shooting the ball.
