SG Jon Diebler (2nd-Most Big Ten career 3-Pointers, Butler Recruiting Director)

I got to see him on STO this weekend for the first time. If my math is correct he hit over 57% beyond the 3 point line. I was overall, extremely impressed with all aspects of his game. If I had to describe him to a stranger, it would be "Pistol Pete with a conscience".

Myself, I see him playing guard instead of SF as this thread lists him. I could be morphing from a pure Buckeye football junkie to a BBB fan as well after wathing Diebler, and Kofous last weekend. If only Oden would stay one more year, WOW.

right now when it comes to shooting I don't think his conscience is much more than Pete's. I also do not think his ballhandling is anywhere close to what the ?Pistol? could do with the rock. That said I don't think that there have been many ball handlers like Pete. Right now, his defense reminds me of Pete's.

At times the 2 and 3 can be interchangable especially in a 3 guard lineup and most of the times these positions are strictly known as wings in some offenses. The thing is that Diebler is going to be a 3 moreso than a 2 due to the fact of who he will be guarding and and the other guy that will be on the floor with him. Next year it would be a combo of guys like Conley, Butler, Turner, Lighty, etc.

With a guy like Lighty on the court with him, you may look at him as more of 2g b/c he is going to be forced to shoot the ball a little more and Lighty will do the scoring...

Either way interchangable parts is what we are getting with all the versatility of the guys we are bringing in and it is a great problem to have...

Totally agree. There have been more prolific scorers but off hand I can't think of anyone who could put on pete's circus act. He never ceased to amaze every time I saw him play.

matta since hes been here has run 2 combo gaurds and small forward with a wing and a 5.

this year though ive seen the 2 and 3 comboed rather than the 1 and 2 more than once and then also hunter provides mattas first 4 hes really had since hes been here.

though harris is if you ask me a tweener, not even really a wing, hes more like a 3.5.

though lewis/lighty/cook all have played the 2 through 4, and cook has brought the ball up the floor.

what im saying is at a certain level of play, iwth a certain level of coaching 1,2,3,4,5 or gaurd, wing, post or pg, sg,sf, pf, c blend and merge as in a lot of situations coachs begin to dictate the game.

the way i see tressels recruiting is how i think of basketball. you want guys who can do more than one thing, then you can use thier strengths to your advantage to create mismatches and dictate games. dont get ubber wrapped up in postions...

BUCKS TO BE:@ With 67 points in a 106-101 overtime win over Shelby, Upper Sandusky's Jon Diebler moved into second place on Ohio's all-time scoring list. He now has 632 points on the season, an average of 42.1 per game, and 2,738 in his career. Diebler was the team's only double-figure scorer for the Rams. At his current pace, he would break Jay Burson's all-time scoring mark in the Division II sectional finals.
"We did everything we could to try and slow him down," Shelby coach Troy Schwemley said. "There were times we had him defensed about as well as we could."
