UPPER SANDUSKY -- Jon Diebler didn't dream about setting records when he and his two older brothers were playing basketball or baseball in the yard.

All that mattered was winning.

''We all hated to lose,'' he said. ''It didn't matter what sport we were playing, it would always turn into an argument.''

And that's what still drives him even as he nears Ohio's high school all-time scoring record.

Diebler needs 112 points to set the record. Just mentioning it causes him to shift in his seat and stare down at his feet.

Diebler-mania
Upper Sandusky's Jon Diebler (23) hangs on the rim after going up for a two-handed slam dunk in Saturday's game against Galion. The senior guard scored 40 points and grabbed 15 boards in the Rams' 100-61 victory against the Tigers.

GALION -
After suffering its first Northern Ohio League loss against Bellevue on Tuesday, the Upper Sandusky boys' basketball team admitted it still had something to prove before postseason play begins in two weeks.
But it wasn't just the spectacle of dunks and crowd-pleasing pizzazz that got it done for the Rams' against Galion in a 100-61 Northern Ohio League victory on Saturday night.
"We came out the way we should of after a loss," Upper Sandusky coach Keith Diebler said about the Rams' stifling defense. "We came out focused and with defense on our mind. And I think we played defense the whole game and that was key."

yep, he just had a sore wrist from what I heard.

My wrist would hurt too!!!!!! lol

Reminds me of Kentucky's Rex Chapman. Walk in the gym and shoot from the aisle heading to the court. :oh:

Were he playing this season and Oden in the middle, that zone defense would be in serious, serious trouble! Oh well, I guess we can wait until next year.....

Jay Burson jokes that his wife and three sons are more competitive than him about his 22-year hold on the Ohio high school career scoring record in boys basketball expected to end because of Jon Diebler?s sweet shooting stroke.
"They don?t want it to happen," the former Ohio State standout said with a laugh. "I?ll be happy for him and his family. It?s part of sports. As the old clich? goes, records are made to be broken. And second place isn?t too bad." Diebler, a 6-foot-7 senior guard averaging 42.6 points for Upper Sandusky, is within 42 points of the 2,958 Burson scored in four seasons as a guard at New Concord John Glenn from 1981 to ?85.

UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio ? Open the gym door, the one with the orange sign reading "Tonight?s Game is Sold Out," taped upon it, and the excitement feels like much-needed warmth on an arctic Friday night in early February. Two hours remain before tip-off, but the bleachers are filling ? so fast, the women working the 50-cent coat check are afraid they?ll run out of hangers.
