Can this kid play D?? I hope so.

Did you read post #294 of this thread?

I watched the game and he put on a show, especially in the first quarter where I believe he had 20 + points. Shelby was consistently sending 2 or 3 players at him to try to slow him down. Everyone talks about the points but he played great defense and showed he can really pass the ball. A great performance.

When I saw Diebler play against Triway his sophmore year in the D-II championship game I thought he would end up being a great shooter and score a decent number of points but what he has been doing since then is ridiculous, he fills the stat sheet up every single night. Another kid that I can't wait to see what Matta can do with when he gets to C-Bus next year. Good luck on the rest of year mr.dielber. BTW next year I can see him coming off the bench like Harris was doing earlier in the year and just being a the microwave man and heating up real fast.

I saw this kid for the first time today on Ohio high school basketball broadcast. What I saw is that he doesn't play great defense and he settles for mid-range shots, where he can drive to the basket.

I don't know, it's hard to say that you're not doing cartwheels for a kid that scores as much as he does, but it's hard to say if he'll be the type of player that can score 15+ a game in college. Certainly, he could do that his junior and senior years, but I don't think he's going to come in scoring a lot like Cook. :oh: :io:

He needs to put on weight and play better D, that point has been repeated numerous times. As for the mid-range jumpers if you notice most go in, I believe they count for as many points as when you drive to the basket and shoot.

Your mid-range shots aren't always going to go in, especially when you're playing in the next level against faster, bigger guys. I like to see a player that will attack the basket, keeping the defense honest..drawing defenders for a feed to an open man and causing fouls by the opposition.

This kid can straight up shoot, he isn't the quickest kid in the world but he can flat out score. Not sure what else you want, a Ray Allen stroke from 3 with Jordan's driving ability? This kid may not be a star but will be a very good college player.

So, you watched one game and your making a judgement on his defense and shot selection? What you watched was a prolific scorer, in a system that creates an up tempo pace by pressing and trapping. They do not ask him to play great defense. Their philosophy is to simply score points. That being said, last night he was in foul trouble and could not challenge at the basket as he does normally. He is a pure shooter and with a summer of weight conditioning, he will be fine. He can play defense and will at OSU. His job at OSU will be to hit the open shot, not carry the offense. He will be fine. If you are going to label the kid, at least watch more than one game and then express your opinion.

I couldnt agree more...

I have had multiple people tell me they are not that impressed with Diebler and I just can't figure it out. They always say the same thing he scores b/c he is a gunner and he doesnt play any defense. They always say he doesnt pass the ball, but some of his passes from half court when I have seen him play were pretty darn impressive.

Also keep in mind that his team is not that great around him. When his brother was on the team he had another guy to go with him...

Also he has that stroke that you can't coach. He can shoot it from anywhere in the gym and will stretch the defense in a system like ours where the 3 ball is such a big part.

Also they don't understand that in Upper's system he is looked at to play man to man D that much as he is basically the last line of defense in the D and he trys to contest the back of the press...

I think Diebler is going to be the surprise of the 2007 class. Maybe not as a freshman but as he gets older and more mature I see him as a very special player.

There is one thing you cannot teach in basketball and that is how to put the ball in the hole from 25' out. I almost think he will be as good as Reddick when he adds a little muscle.

Well, I'm very sorry for making comments about what I thought about his performance in a game. While you may need to watch more than one game to get a more accurate reading on a guy, I think that if you're a person that's been around basketball as long as I have that you can, it doesn't take much to get a good feel about a player, especially when the game is considered to be one of his best--and when most people say the same thing that I said .

But, I'm very sorry. Shame on me. I see, I make a comment about Matt T, I get a warning. Post a thread about a possible lineup in a couple years, it gets deleted. I get the message. I'll just stop posting here.
