SF Sam Thompson (JB Monferrato - Italy)

I saw him last year in Dayton and me and my brother look at each other and say "My God this kid can jump!" Reminded us both of another Thompson.
Sam Thompson has incredible ups. But no human I have ever seen has approached NC State's David Thompson for pure leaping ability. If you never saw him in person you cannot fully appreciate what a transcendent athlete he was.

With that said, I think Sam has probably more basketball skill than David had (though David had a nice J). Looking forward to seeing lots of good things from Sam in the next few years.

I was suprised that Thompson didn't see any time against USC. Could be illness/injury, but my thinking is that with Sully out most of the game Coach wanted to leave Diesel and his offense in the game, as well as Buford.

It certainly looks like Thompson is playing some pretty good D, and is very explosive, so we'll see how much time he sees as the season goes on.

David Thompson was one of my all time favorites.

I recall in particular an NCAA game against (IIRC) Providence where he was injured and had to have his head bandaged. What triggered the injury was his going after a rebound and catching his foot in 6'7" Tim Stoddard's armpit causing him to tumble head first to the court.

Sam is so under control. Super smooth athlete. When his ballhandling and confidence improve, he'll be hard to keep off the floor. His shooting touch is very soft and he has a decent midrange jumper. I'd like to see him take his man into the post a little more and use his jumping ability to dominate.

Earning more and more playing time. Come tourney time he should be logging 10-15 minutes per game at least.

His defense has been very good coming off the bench and he certainly sparks with his aerial game. Goodness

IMO he needs to play over sibert. I like Sibert, but Thompson has earned it by his play. Hopefully it is rewarded.
they play two different positions. Sibert plays the #2 position while Thompson plays the #3 position. I don't think that Thompson can handle the ball as well as Sibert plus Thompson is not the outside shooter that Sibert is even though he did not show it against Indiana.
