SF Alonzo Gaffney (transfer to NW Florida, transfer to Arizona St.)

Every coach has to deal with transfers but the kids transferring out of the program our kids he is recruiting to be the future of the program........this is not just normal kids at the end of the bench transferring out for playing time...........

There is a pattern here.
That’s exactly what Gaffney was tho. He played maybe 60 minutes all year. Everyone knew he was gonna transfer our months ago. He wasn’t playing and this is what gonna be his 5th school in 4 years? That’s what he does. Holtmann could be to blame for others but no way Gaffney. He transfers every year,

nothing about gaffney right now makes any season. i mean, it's one thing to want to turn pro. it's quite another to want to turn pro when what little you've done in college shows that you're not close to being ready. and then it's quite another still when pro basketball both nationally and internationally are in a state of uncertain flux. right now, gaffney is at the intersection of bad decisions and worse options.

i hate to say it and i know this probably comes off as harsh and mean, but alonzo looks like he's just a couple years away from slipping into basketball obscurity. i hope he proves me wrong.

Totally agree. I have a feeling that when this discussion ends on this site it may likely be the last time anyone in the Continental United States Of America ever talks about Alonzo as a basketball player.

SHOULD THEY STAY OR SHOULD THEY GO? Just so we're clear, there is no mystery here. Kaleb Wesson and Alonzo Gaffney are absolutely gone and CJ Walker is absolutely coming back to Ohio State.

There are no decisions to sway, but that doesn't make NBA Scouts assessments any less interesting, and after talking to said scouts, Jeff Goodman has both Wesson and Gaffney squarely in the "They Say They’re Ready, But Leaving School Would Be a Mistake" category.

Alonzo Gaffney, 6-9, 200, PF, Fr., Ohio State | He barely got off the bench at Ohio State last season, averaging 6.8 minutes per game. He’s long and looks the part, but his stock couldn’t be any lower.

“This is one of the worst decisions of anyone. He needs to transfer.” – NBA executive

There's a solid chance neither of these players ever make it in the NBA, but hey, playing overseas is lucrative as hell compared to what the average person does with their lives. And you could always win a couple hundred thousand on the side during the summer, like Carmen's Crew.

I'll never hate on a guy for deciding getting paid six figures to play basketball in Italy is better than another year of walking to class in the snow for free.

Here's the quote:

"Gaffney’s father, Kevin Gaffney, told The Dispatch that the family wasn’t pleased with his lack of playing time in his first and only season.

“He’s not wanted down there,” he said on March 22. “It’s a shame they would treat an Ohio kid like that. That’s real tough for him, especially mentally. He’s finishing spring semester, and I talked to the compliance office about the transfer protocol. We’ll leave our options open.”"
Unfortunately for Alonzo it seems his dad is fueling his lack of persistence.

something tells me that gaffney's advisors need their own advisors.
