Script Ohio (official thread)

This simply isn't true. In fact, at the Sugar Bowl this year the Arkansas fans wanted to know when our band was going to spell out Ohio (their words).
They're used to seeing the Golden Band from Tiger Land. Which means that they're sick of seeing "Corn Dog" spelled out on the field while the Golden Girls do a soft porn dance routine.

OK, not "sick of" exactly, but....

I was hoping that ESPN would be able to prevent botting a little more than this, but late in the contest fans came out heavy. It probably was happening much earlier, but they kept it close to keep it looking realistic. That all went out the window when Nebraska and Michigan went head to head. Both sides would jump 20% points a night and the final tally was well over 1 million votes after previous rounds brought in 70-80k votes. Florida State took a lead on Notre Dame going from a 4% lead to finishing with 80% of 2 million votes. Notre Dame would have had a botter also to receive 20% of 2 million, but it just shows how ridiculous this poll became. The final is between FSU and Michigan. I can't stand to vote for either team, but it doesn't really matter because the whole poll went from being mildly interesting to farcical and silly. Would have really liked to see which team had the better online presense without the bots, but meh. Script Ohio should have been in the final, gotta wonder now if early botting helped Nebraska get the edge.

You must have forgotten something going on this offseason that would make other fans of other teams simply just vote against anything Ohio State.

Not only that, but it's been well established that Nebraska fans come out of the woodwork for online polls.

I don't think the off-season media witch hunt helped contribute much to Script Ohio going down. Heaven knows Notre Dame has their share of haters no matter how clean or dirty their slate is from one season to the next and they made it to the final 4.
I think it came down to that fact that Nebraska is strong both offline and online for their football support, but given the blatant botting that's occurred in the final rounds you have to wonder if that helped give them an edge over Script Ohio too. tOSU has a strong online presence too.

Based on the Michigan/Nebraska results you cannot overlook the possibility of bots in the Nebraska/Ohio State poll. Sad to say, but true.

It got entirely out of hand, on both sides, in the NU/MU poll. I'm frankly very glad to be out of that ignorant battle.

they come out of the woodwork to use their bots. they don't win all these online polls because there are that many of them who vote.

I can't comment on any other polls, but this one turned into a veritable sham considering the 2+ million votes in the final rounds. Nebraska certainly comes out in force offline and online in their support of their football team and it's admirable. When Notre Dame played Nebraska at the turn of the last decade it was impressive to see how many fans showed up on campus even if they didn't have a ticket, and they were very respectful.
