San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

No offense to you personally, Mike....but I'm getting tired of the #hottakes on the 49ers coming from the Michigan fan base. Your coach is an asshole who the 9ers brass didn't want to put up with anymore. Yes, in the context of winning games, that was a bad move. But he's THAT MUCH of an asshole they they didn't care. That's an indictment on Harbaugh as much as it is on the 9ers.
Yeah, Harbaugh is a large-sized prick. As is Baalke, so that relationship was on borrowed time from the minute he was hired. Kelly, at least from what I've been reading today, is eager to get it right the 2nd time around. Like I said, the guy went 10-6 in each of his first two years taking over a franchise that appeared to be swirling the drain at the end of the Reid era. And he did that with the likes of Nick Foles, Butt Fumble and Matt Barkley at QB. He can coach. Keep him away from roster decisions, and let him focus on what he's good at. Hopefully he learned from his experience in Philly. If so, there's a good chance this could really work. If not, it's a safe bet Baalke's fate is tied to Chip. And Chip surely knows if he flames out in SF, his days as an NFL coach are over. So I have to believe they're both pretty motivated to make this work.

As for Harbrau, I doubt even keeping him around would have been very beneficial for long-term success. It was evident during the 2014 season that it wasn't just the FO that was fed up with his antics. The entire team sleep-walked through that season on the field. They simply weren't buying what he was selling anymore. That's why he's probably better off staying in college, where roster turnover is a constant.

Kelly won't be gutting this roster. He will not have any control over roster decisions. Given Hyde's experience in Urban's offense, he should be a centerpiece going forward...if he can get/stay healthy.

Kelly couldn't figure out to run Murray north/south. So while Hyde's experience is wonderful, Chip's obsession with lateral runs is head scratching.

I'm a life long Rams fan. Hating the Niners has much more to do with Jimmy.

Oh, I have my concerns with him. However, LeSean McCoy had a couple of pretty good seasons under Kelly. Kelly was plum dumb signing Murray, who is hot garbage without the Cowboys 2014 OL blocking for him. Fortunately, he won't be assembling the roster. Baalke will. Oh, wait...fuck me...we still have Baalke.

I don't think Kaepernick fits into the future. I think he's done in San Francisco. Maybe they take a flyer on Cardale Jones in a middle round.
He was possibly done prior to this hire. This essentially saves him, and gives him a chance to resurrect his career in SF with a coach that should be able to get the most out of his abilities. If he's healthy, he's the starter. I'm sure of that.

Chances are he wasn't going anywhere anyway. Because of his injuries/surgeries this offseason, my understanding is that they couldn't have cut him anyway...something in the language of his contract. His contract was likely rolling over into next season. But he was probably gonna have to beat gabbert to get his job back. Ian Rappaport has said that Kelly was looking at ways to specifically acquire Kap at his next stop...wherever that may be. So it sounds like Chip wants him at QB. Their careers are likely attached at the hip at this point, so will be interesting to see how it plays out. Kap was very successful when utilized in a way to maximize his strengths (legs, strong arm), and struggled when they tried to turn him into what he's not...a pocket QB. Kelly will likely fall back on his strengths. Question will be if his confidence was damaged over the past 2-3 years to the point he can't play and excel in the carefree way he did in 2012 and some of '13. I have my doubts, but if anybody is going to salvage him, it's Chip Kelly. He was a ton of fun to watch when he was just going out there and playing ball.

This team lost to the clowns fergodsakes, nowhere to go but up.

As you would expect, there are exactly two reactions on Niners forums...people that see it as a bold hire and want to give it a chance, and people that are typing "WE ARE DOOMED" in all caps with a lot of exclamation points. Most of those folks beef seems to center around their uninformed assumptions that Kelly is going to come in, trade NoVarro Bowman and Joe Staley, and run the franchise further into the ground. The more level headed posters seem to feel the same way I do...it's a boom or bust hire, it'll at least make them interesting, and STEP OFF THE LEDGE, HE WON'T HAVE SAY ON PERSONNEL.

I don't think Chip Kelly is going to Saint kaep, I think he's done. They will find something else.

There is zero evidence to support this conclusion. If anything, this moves saves Kaep's career in San Fran.

...or dooms it to a fiery pit from whence there is no return. A lot like seeing a lesbian at the bar, either she's dog ugly or so smoking hot it makes you want to be a woman. But there will be no in between with Kaep.

Ok. If you say so.
