San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

It appears that in a rare moment of clarity, the two head clowns may be ready to admit they done fucked up, and Tomsula may be out. It's just rumors now, so I'll believe it when I see it.

If he's indeed gone, will be interesting to see if they can get anybody worth a damn to take the job. I have my doubts.

I think that they might be more screwed up than the Browns.. The Browns were never up there to fail but the 49ers were a pretty damn good football team only to go down to the toilet very close to the Browns.

Bad ownership always bites you in the ass eventually. :/

Looks like Sean Payton is a non-starter. Staying in NO. Who the hell knows where they turn now. I fully expect a disaster because Jed York.

Most of the smoke seems to be shifting from Hue Jackson to Tom Coughlin now. Coughlin will be 70 when the season starts. I'm not gonna overreact, because usually when "smoke" bounces from one guy to another, neither ends up being hired. However, IF they were to hire Coughlin...um, he's really old. And, yes he "resigned", but it's clear to anybody with half a brain that NY wanted him out, and just (rightfully) allowed him to leave with grace. But the guy was 19-29 the last three years, and hasn't sniffed the post season in the last four.

Your typical mouth-breathing fan will say "he's won TWO Super Bowls!"...these are the same idiots that want them to hire Shanahan or Holmgren just because they won years ago. It is not the path to turning around a team in serious need of some new blood, and a dynamic coach with a fresh outlook. Maybe Coughlin still has some tread on his tires, but what's the ceiling with him the next 3-4 years? Logic dictates he's a better coach than Tomsula, so perhaps he could get them back to 8-8 and 9-7, but if this franchise's goals are to "hang banners" like Jeddy-boy says, do you really think an elderly coach is going to do that? I don't.

Anyway, Jackson will probably be snatched up by a more attractive job (NY) or a team willing to give him say on the roster (CLE?). Baalke is not going to cede the roster to a coach. Chip Kelly is still laying out there in the weeds, and he supposedly reached out to SF expressing interest. If I was a betting man, I'd lay my money on him. And, yes, he was a disaster in Philly this year; but he did win 20 games his first two years taking over a team that appeared to need a major rebuild. Keep him away from roster decisions, give him a decent defensive coordinator, and it might just be crazy enough to work. At least it would be entertaining.
