San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Spend all off season talking about all this cap room, and aside from resigning Ian Williams (a good move), barely a peep on anything other than re-signing a few other bit pieces, including possibly the worst offensive lineman in the NFL. There were whispers about them pursuing Sean Smith, but nothing concrete and the Raiders appear to be emerging as the front-runner. I fucking hate Trent Baalke.

A number of Broncos fans at work seem to think they're going to get Kaep... thoughts?

Disclaimer:
Yes, I realize this is a low-content post based on brother's wife's uncle's ex-turned-lesbian's dike girlfriend's father... it's the offseason and I'm bored.
I think it's certainly a possibility, and I think that's a place where he could resurrect his career. Kaep has major flaws...reading defenses, decision making...but put him behind a good OL that doesn't force him to make quick decisions, and a good defense, and he's more than adequate. It's not a coincidence that he went into a shit spiral when the Niners OL fell apart and they tried to make him a pocket passer with little help.

The Niners have said they're not entertaining trade offers for him, but I think that's them trying to preserve the relationship in case they can't get what they feel he's worth. What that is, I have no idea. But I'm fairly certain Baalke's dumb ass will want too much. Bottom line, if they get a decent offer for him, I think they take it.

I like Kaep. He can be one of the funnest players in the league to watch in the right situation. He puts in the work. He says all the right things. He's always been a good locker room guy, which is unusual for kids that have as much success as quickly as he did. I'll always be a fan of his after the incredible postseason runs in 2012-13. But I think it's time for him and the Niners to move on from each other.

I'm highly amused that the 49ers presumably watched the OSU-Oregon national championship game and decided that Oregon's D-line was the one that they wanted to have on NFL level. Now to draft the NT that got trucked by Cardale and they will be all set to dominate the league.

I actually liked the decision to move back into the first round to grab Garnett. This team needs interior OL help in the worst way, and I think they got a stud.

When the 49ers were crushing opponents with Jim Harbaugh's rushing attack, Mike Iupati was decimating opponents with his power at left guard. Garnett projects well as a similar player. He's a pure power guy who may need a bit of adjustment in Chip Kelly's zone scheme. Garnett has the talent to switch, and though it may take time for that to happen, he's going to be a special player over time. It's just a matter of scheme fit and how much you believe it's worth it to spend three picks to trade back into the first round for a guard.

Another Baalke special...drafts another injured player in the fucking 3rd round. This time an undersized CB I've never even fucking heard of. Try to convince me he isn't sabotaging this organization from the inside. I dare you.

When was the last time you heard about someone quitting the NFL to play rugby?

49ers' Jarryd Hayne is retiring from the NFL to return to rugby

Running back says he couldn't pass up chance to play in the Olympics for Fiji

Jarryd Hayne, the former rugby star that won a roster spot with the San Francisco 49ers last offseason, announced on Sunday that he will retire from the NFL and return to his rugby career.

Hayne surprisingly made the roster last summer after impressing 49ers coaches with his punt return skills early in training camp. He also flashed the ability to make defenders miss in the open field and simply truck them over during his limited preseason snaps as a running back.

He was a big-time rugby player prior to giving the NFL a try. And this is for a chance at the Olympics...not just to play.

Re: According to the NFL salary database, Hayne signed a three-year contract. The deal covers 2015, 2016 and 2017, and is the league minimum each year ($435k, $525k, $615k).

I've been to Fiji, do you realize what $500K USDs a year would be to the average Fijian? I can't imagine he would make nearly that much playing rugby; however, I do realize that to many people there are more important things than money.

Colin Kaepernick has every right to voice his opinion, just like I have the right to express my opinion that he is a clueless, spoiled clown that has no concept of how good he has it. If he truly has such disdain for the U.S., nobody is forcing him to stick around and collect $125 million to be a mediocre quarterback. I'm sure there are more than a few refugees fleeing countries where they face daily persecution and oppression that would trade places with him.

In short, f*ck that guy.
