San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Signed Antoine Bethea for 4 years, $23M. So, a couple million less than Whitner. I'd call it a wash, basically. They're about the same age. Bethea won't make as many big plays/hits as Whitner, but probably won't give up as many big ones either. He's an upgrade in coverage, IMO.

Surprised you have not mentioned that Phil Dawson signed a 2 year contract. Also, Gabbert has to be an upgrade over McCoy… No?

I just saw that Dawson resigned. Makes me very happy.

Gabbert over Colt? Meh, I don't know. Colt has the noodle arm, but Gabbert has been an unabashed bust. I read that they picked him up because both Harbaugh and Baalke liked him coming out of college. So looks like they might be making him a personal project.

They also landed the infamous Jonathan Martin from the Dolphins today for a 7th round pick in 2015 (if he makes the 53 man roster). So, essentially for free. Gives him a fresh start back on the west coast and reunites him with his college coach. Seems like a good move for both sides.

I don't see Jackson signing with the 9ers unless he settles for a small 1 year deal (which I don't see him settling for.)

I assume they are planning on giving Crabtree a lot of money after this season, and they aren't going to give 2 big contracts to wide receivers. Not to mention all the off the field stuff that comes with Jackson.

with all the picks they seem to have again, i could see them trading up into the first round like they did for Reid last year...

last year they took Tank Carridine and Lattimore both injured and basically redshirted...wonder if the 49ers have their eye on any 1st rounders who slippped because of injury...or maybe...thier sexual orientation????

My thoughts on that simulator:

I don't know too much about Dee Ford tbh.

I don't really want to take a WR with one of our 1st 2 picks. I think our lack of depth there is overstated, assuming we're healthy and assuming Crabtree is going to sign an extension, and I just don't like taking WRs high in the draft in general.

I want them to trade up for Dennard in the 1st. If that's not possible then take whoever they like the best/whoever is available between Roby, Fuller, and Verrett. CB is our most pressing need imo. And we need some elite, 1st round-type talent there, not depth/development guys.

I'd be thrilled with getting Hyde at 77. I'd have no problem if they took him at 56 for that matter. Obviously I am not objective here but I'm not even sure it would be a bad pick if they took him at 30. The 9ers are one of the few teams where a running back really matters and if Hyde is elite that's a perfectly fine pick for them. They need to get a back somewhere in this draft. This is probably Gore's last year as a 49er, Lattimore is a lotto ticket, LaMike James probably won't be on the team in 4 months and Hunter is a 5-6 carry a game type back. I don't know that taking a flyer on Isaiah Crowell is the best approach here.

I definitely like the idea of using 4 picks to add some depth to both lines.

Do not want McCarron at 129. I think he's just an average prospect and I trust Harbaugh can mold a late pick/ undrafted guy into a backup type.

A safety/ slot corner from Northern Illinois isn't the most exciting pick, but scouts/writers seem to like him, so I'm cool with it. We definitely needed to improve our coverage in the slot. Carlos Rogers was pretty brutal there.
