A safety/ slot corner from Northern Illinois isn't the most exciting pick, but scouts/writers seem to like him, so I'm cool with it. We definitely needed to improve our coverage in the slot. Carlos Rogers was pretty brutal there.

Nope, not the most exciting pick, but I expect them to slide him over to CB. It fills a need, so no problem with it. 5 picks today...

Picked up Stevie Johnson from Buffalo for a conditional '15 4th rounder. Good pickup right there that improves the receiving corp before even making a pick today.

Good piece...he will be much better as a compliment than he was as a feature.

Hot damn I love the work Baalke is doing so far. He follows up Hyde with arguably the best center on the board and then gets a pure football player in Borland.

Indifferent about the first round pick, but I think the Niners 2nd and 3rd round picks have been great.

LOVE this draft...

• Ward: probably slides over to CB, fills a need
• El Guapo: Gore's successor. Built to be a Niner
• Martin: #1 center in the draft on many boards
• Borland: tackling machine, fits this D perfectly
• B. Thomas: viewed as first or second round pick before knee injury. Played LT, will likely slide inside...gives versatility. Likely "redshirt" pick
• Ellington: adds depth and a deep threat to a much improved receiving corp
• D. Johnson: big CB adds depth to secondary
• Lynch: could be a steal. Has size/speed combo to help ease the expected loss of Aldon Smith.

Don't know much about the rest of the guys, but that was a home run draft.

Only bad news from yesterday was the St Louis Lams also hit a home run. The NFC West is going to be an absolute bloodbath next year.

I think SF hands down had the best draft overall. Great players and fantastic value all-around for the most part...though they reached on Ward a bit but the other picks were all home runs. Hyde will fit like a glove with your offense.

the 49ers just put together a draft that might mean they can go after FAs in the next few years to fill gaps instead of having to resign aging players to do the same.
