San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

This was not called a penalty. I guess this wasn't considered "contact to the head or neck area."

NFL rules and calls are the worst.

Another horrific roughing the passer penalty called on Skuta but whatever. Still got the win.

And now the fact is: Kap has more playoff wins than Luck, Wilson, RG3 & Newton combined.
He also got a bit of a head start on the others, but I think he and Wilson will have the best pro careers.

What will be interesting is how these successful teams with young quarterbacks (San Francisco, Seattle, Indianapolis, and Carolina) will work around the looming, massive contracts they'll have to give out to their quarterbacks. For example, Kaepernick's rookie contract is done after next year - though they may extend him before that. The return these teams are getting is crazy. For example, Russell Wilson is making just over $526,000 this year. That's crazy!

What seems to me to be crazy is to give an untested rookie - the name "Tebow" comes trippingly to the tongue - a monster contract only to discover that money that could buy a proven free agent is tied up in a bad investment.

Even crazier is the ability of of the NFL, NBA and MLB to pay these kinds of salaries and still make money.

Yeah, hopefully Bowman can make it back in time for next season. That was rough to see. I fucking hate Seattle so goddamned much. Buncha roided up punkasses.
you can send Phil Dawson back to Cleveland because the 49ers could not get him to the Super Bowl either so there is not much difference between San Francisco and Cleveland except maybe the entire football organization.

Cool draft simulator here: http://www.first-pick.com/NFL/DraftGame.aspx

Here's where I went:

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 30: Odell Beckham, WR, LSU (B+)
Round 2 Pick 24: Louchiez Purifoy, CB, Florida (A-)
Round 2 Pick 29: Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota (A)
Round 3 Pick 13: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State (A)
Round 3 Pick 30: A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama (A)
Round 4 Pick 29: Ahmad Dixon, SS, Baylor (A)
Round 5 Pick 30: Devon Kennard, OLB, Southern California (B)
Round 6 Pick 29: Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida (B-)
Round 7 Pick 27: Cody Hoffman, WR, Brigham Young (B-)
Round 7 Pick 28: De'Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon (B-)
Round 7 Pick 30: Corey Linsley, C, Ohio State (B+)

I would be ecstatic with that draft.

Boldin coming back at 2 years for $12M. That's a pretty good deal. Putting him and Crabtree together for a whole season (knock on wood) will make a huge difference. Kaep was a different QB after Crabtree returned (217 ypg, 10-3 Td-Int). I'd expect them to use their first rounder on a WR as well, hopefully turning a weakness into a strength. The WR class is very deep this year too, so shouldn't have to reach for an AJ Jenkins in this draft.

Niners pick up Blaine Gabbert from Jax for a 6th this year and conidtional 2015 based on playing time. Don't like Gabbert at all, but he was a good prospect a couple of years ago. Whether he's just a shitty QB, or a decent QB that was stuck on a shit team, I don't know. Either way, it's a low-risk move. If anybody can wring anything out of him, it's Harbaugh and Roman.

blaine gabbert is definitely shitty. all kinds of shitty. he's "we're signing chad henne to an extension over you shitty". that being said, he's potentially less shitty than colt mccoy. the real issue is that he makes twice as much as kaepernick. i'm sure that will go over well.

Plus he looks like a girl. And, yeah, Colt can barely throw the ball past the line of scrimmage, so guess they're hoping they can make Gabbert less...girly. He without question has a better arm.

Last I heard, the Niners are working on a long-term extension for Kaep. I'd expect that to get worked out before training camp. So, don't think that'll be an issue for long.
