He's infuriating at times, but I have an awfully hard time calling him "not good" when their run to the SB in 2013 was largely on his back, as was the win in Green Bay this past postseason. He has an arm that enables him to make throws few others can (see the cross-body/cross-field pass to Gore on Sunday), and his feet are a serious weapon when deployed. He's definitely prone to some boneheaded throws, as many young QBs with big arms are. You just have to take the good with the bad, and hope the bad becomes less frequent as he gains more and more experience. Fortunately, the Niners are talented enough in other areas (ground game/defense) to overcome his gaffes more often than not.I just don't think he's that good.
He did have a heck of a run to the Super Bowl. But on balance, when I watch San Francisco, what I see is a team where the talent at RB often keeps the need for Kaep under control. This is a physical team on offense and defense and he's at his best when he's more or less a game manager. He is a physically gifted human being, but I won't be surprised if he is a very average QB from now on.He's infuriating at times, but I have an awfully hard time calling him "not good" when their run to the SB in 2013 was largely on his back, as was the win in Green Bay this past postseason. I can't think of many losses that you can pin square on Kaepernick. Two weeks ago against AZ, the entire team was a personal foul orgy. An argument could be made he cost them the Bears game, but the same personal foul issues were just as big a player, IMO. The NFCCG last year is the closest I can think of, but that was largely on a last ditch throw that was literally an inch away from making him a hero.
I think his faults are overblown because he's a big name with a personality that often rubs people the wrong way. If you were to ask me if the Niners can win a SB with him at QB, I'd say absolutely they can. Conversely, if I wasn't a Niners fan, I'd probably say he sucks too.
There are certainly games that appear that way, but he's won more than a few with his arm. His arm almost single-handedly brought them back from the dead in the SB. Like I said, the skills are there. They just need to refine him a bit, and he's still young enough to grow.He did have a heck of a run to the Super Bowl. Yeah, I don't deny the physical skills, but I'm doubtful he will routinely put it together successfully. Obviously I could be wrong...There are certainly games that appear that way, but he's won more than a few with his arm. His arm almost single-handedly brought them back from the dead in the SB. As could I, as I'm obviously seeing it from the "homer" side.Yeah, I don't deny the physical skills, but I'm doubtful he will routinely put it together successfully. Obviously I could be wrong...
