S Vonn Bell (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

****So, I am just throwing this out there: What has changed between all of this and where we sit today? Does one gut beating NC win really make that much of a difference? On what basis is it a foregone conclusion that Bell is Bama's to loose? Not saying he is coming to tOSU but just curious why everyone has written him off?

Probably because he was apparently ready to announce his college decision (and then take an official visit to the team he chose) before Coach Meyer went down for the state championship game/in-home. After that, Bell agreed to set official visits to his three favorites before deciding. It doesn't take much of a leap to deduce he was not leaning toward OSU at that point, since I can't fathom a reason why Meyer would want him to take official visits elsewhere if he was already leaning strongly toward OSU.

Wherever Bell is leaning now, it seems fair that as of early-December he was not leaning toward OSU.

Gareon Conley wasn't leaning OSU either in Nov, and committed the first week of Dec. So what's the point?

Offering an instate kid that has always loved the Buckeyes and a later change of heart is not shocking. However, a kid who grew up in the deep south who Saban has been after since Day 1 is the complete opposite. Not saying I am writing him off completely, just cautioning those who buy into the "everyone is even with 2 weeks to go"rhetoric from getting too excited.

However, there is something to be said that he was ready to commit (presumably to Bama and this was before they were even in the title game this year) and changed his mind to visit OSU. That being said, the visit had to be a 10/10 perfect visit game changer and I think most felt if he left without commiting to OSU, he would be heading to Bama. Not to mention that every single insider I have read has said he is 100% Bama...this is not just whimsical negative talk. Of course I stand by my opinion that he is the top player on our board and I hope we keep giving Bell full-court press until NLOID.

I'm sure Conley loved tOSU has much as one possibly can for an UM commit. So you may have a point. Also, Charlie Strong doesn't coach at 'Bama, so let's get the "we have no shot" rhetoric out of the way.

In all seriousness, Farrell is the only guy calling him a 'Bama lock, and you are probably more confident of Bell to Bama than 90% of the Bama guys. I'm not saying he's coming to OSU, but there was PLENTY of pro-OSU chatter during the UA game leading up to the officials, and I don't believe Bell has verballed anywhere yet. Let's just put the "I told you so" negative talks aside and wait this one out.

Who knows what Vonns going to do. People are so quick to write this kid off for two reasons. 1 he said in an interview that Saban "will be coaching me", even though he just meant that Saban is pretty much the DBs coach. And 2, his brothers tweets about tOSU night life not impressing them. I think we have as good of a chance as anyone. Vonns parents really like Everett Withers.

My point was simply that there was a lot of pro OSU chatter about him for several months during which time he cited all the important factors: campus being the best he saw, a strong bond with the coaches he described as "family atmosphere" etc, etc. and then all of a sudden he is a Bama lock just because he wasn't going to visit any schools before deciding and then decides to visit all 3? I just don't see how that indicates Bama. I heard that he did see several Bama games leading up to that however. I can see how that indicates he was sold on Bama and then Urb talked him into an OV first. But I can just as easily see a kid who wanted to see a dominate team like Bama up close because it is a dynasty and he did have serious interest in them but on each visit it didn't have the same gut feeling he had at tOSU.

If there was going to be one school to beat out that fealing it would be the current dynasty and so he gave them a hard look. Why is it such a stretch to view it that way? I also can see Urban not wanting to count on Vonn's pledge and then lose it so late in the game with limited numbers so he simply wanted to be sure he could ink in his spot. Call me a dreamer but that scenario is just as likely as any pro Bama one considering his history with us. If I had to lay odds certainly Bama would be the favorite but I just don't see it as the lock that everyone else does.

Urban was in the locker room with him after his defeat in the playoffs. He sat with his parents at the game. Maybe this was just the Bell's being nice even though they were all sold on Bama. I for one just don't buy it. Bama has just a little better than a coin flips chance than us IMO. Only reason everyone has been saying lately that he is a lock to go there is a carry over from the dominate performance in the NC game and no one can fathom touching their magic in anything. I know one guy though who doesn't buy into that mythology and so far I have learned not to count him out.

Again, Bama may be the favorite but it's not the landslide some make it out to be IMO.

Vonn Bell enjoys his visit to UT
by Patrick Brown

KNOXVILLE ? The long recruiting process may be nearing an end for Vonn Bell, but the Ridgeland High School safety now enters the hardest part of his college decision.

Bell took his official visit to Tennessee this weekend, his third such trip in as many weeks after visiting Alabama last weekend and Ohio State the weekend of Jan. 12.

In a text message to the Times Free Press late Sunday night, Bell said he had a ?great visit? to Knoxville in which he spent time with new Vols coach Butch Jones and his staff and attended Tennessee's basketball game on Saturday.

?It was a good weekend in Knoxville,? Bell said. ?Opened a lot of eyes and [made] more discussion points ? Just being around Coach [Butch] Jones and all the coaching staff you feel positive energy. Walking in [Thompson-Boling] arena you feel the fan love and the excitement there looking forward to the next season and see what Coach Jones brings.?

Tennessee fans at the Vols' basketball game chanted Bell's name on a couple of occasions, and the coaching staff and recruits got a loud ovation as they took their seats for the game near the student section during a first-half timeout.

A week ago Jones and Tennessee's entire defensive staff visited Bell and his family at his home. Alabama coach Nick Saban made his one permissible in-home visit the previous week ahead of Bell?s visit to Tuscaloosa. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer used his in-person visit when Ridgeland played in Georgia's Class AAAA state championship game.

A five-star prospect according to both Rivals and 247sports, Bell will announce his decision on Feb. 6, and his signing-day news conference in Ridgeland's will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 10 a.m.

I feel like his recruitment is trending towards Tennessee. He's doing a good job keeping it close to the vest.
That seems to be the feeling many recruiting experts have today.

If I am #Tennessee, I am feeling great about Vonn Bell right now. Still more than a week out. #SigningDay
Who knows at this point. We could finish anywhere from first to third in this race.

At this point, if he visited Arkansas State last, they would be in the lead for his signature. IMO, it's down to Alabama and Tennessee with Ohio State not far behind. That order could change as soon as tomorrow for me though. I just feel like he will be in Tuscaloosa next year.
