Rutgers football looks to show it can hang with Michigan and Ohio State in big, bad Big Ten
Rutgers felt the Big Ten is where it always has belonged, but not everyone sees it that way. 'I don?t really see Rutgers as a Big Ten football team,' Ohio State?s outspoken safety Christian Bryant said at Big Ten media day in Chicago. 'I don?t think it fits with the traditional Big Ten teams. No offense.'

Junior quarterback Gary Nova gives Rutgers a top-notch quarterback and also a player who hasn't forgotten that the team is still a year away from joining the Big Ten. 'Our team definitely hasn't forgotten about the American Conference,' he said.
NEWPORT, R.I. ? Although Rutgers champions being the birthplace of college football, it has never fostered a winning tradition. However, the past five years have been the high-water mark for the Scarlet Knights, who have enjoyed B-list bowl success and a curious interest among college football fans in the five boroughs.
This success may reach a crescendo this year as they are in position to compete for the automatic BCS bid from the newly formed American Athletic Conference, which will be their temporary residence for a year before they make the quantum leap to the Big Ten. ?I still believe, as I said last year, this is the time for Rutgers to start winning championships," head coach Kyle Flood said.
However, just as quickly as this tide comes in at the Jersey shore, it may go out again as there is a distinct possibility the Knights may not be ready for the week-in and week-out competition in one of college football?s premier conferences.
Rutgers felt the Big Ten is where it always has belonged, but its fans will soon learn you have to do more than just show up.
