the game didn’t hold any less importance for me this year than in years past. i don’t think that will change in the future, regardless of the cfp. the feelings are imbedded waaay too deep for any future circumstance to change them. there’s just too much history - from ecstatic highs to extreme lows.

remember when we were nearing a decade of straight wins going the tress days to the urban days? remember people talking about how the rivalry was dead and not exciting anymore? that had nothing to do with bcs or the four-team playoffs or conference expansions.

this game means everything to this fan base. it’s THE defining element of being a buckeye football fan. nothing can or will displace that.

i get that some of the “it doesn’t mean as much anymore” reaction could be a coping thing. it’s a way to lessen the sinking feeling we get in the pit of our stomachs when we see the scoreboard again after games like saturday’s. but, it’s always there, pulling on us. it’s like gravity… it’s always there, whether you feel it (especially when you fall on your ass) or you don’t. it’s what defines us and separates us from other fans.
Thank you brother. I feel like I’ve taken crazy pills lately. Everyone telling me that this lose is OK because we made it to the CFP. Fuck that noise.

Day isn't going anywhere, unless he does it voluntarily. Too much money tied up buying out current coaches, hiring new ones (buying out their current contracts and giving them new ones), and then the whole cost of the NIL packages for players. It wouldn't surprise me if the cost to switch things out would approach $100 million.

Bull shit. If any OSU team loses 5 games even with a win over scum, people are going to lose their shit and demand a coaching change.
No shit, which is why these either or questions you people keep posing are stupid. Those aren't the only options. The goals are to beat scUM, win the conference, and compete for an NC. Not to be mediocre or slightly above average without beating our rival. None of us are happy with either of those options, so this isn't the gotcha' Day sympathizers think it is. Tressel and Meyer routinely beat scUM, won 10+ games, won the conference, and competed for NCs and won high-profile bowl games. That's the standard. That's what Day is not doing

You mean like they are doing with a 10-2 season and a loss to Michigan. Seems like we'd be in the same place, no?
It would be easier to get tickets if they were snapping off 7-5 seasons, that's for sure.

Maybe it's worth it....you know, take away any expectations and shit.

Granted, the revenue and TV money might start to dry up a tad, but who really cares, amirite?

The former.

Without question.

Who gives a shit about a 1st round Playoff loss?

With a 12 team playoff everyone is going to have to re-assess on what making the playoff actually means.

Making a 12 teamer means absolutely nothing if you never do anything with it and lose in the 1st/2nd round every year. You have to move on from a coach, even if they win 10 games a year, if it's obvious they are never going to seriously compete to win that title.

Anyone who says they are ok with losing 5 games is full of shit. That was my point. A win over scum wouldn’t negate the fact that we lost 5 games and would barely sneak into a bowl game. So would we be in the same place, no. We currently are 10-2, two losses by a total of 4 points and headed to the playoffs. I would have loved to have beaten scum but it didn’t happen. In the 5 loss scenario, we pretty much would be, because a lower level bowl game means shit.

Earl beat cunt on a consistent basis but competed for a national title only in his first year. He was out of the picture the entire rest of his tenure, and it's one of the darkest spots in program history since before the early 30s.

Agree. Losing in the first round is like losing the Citrus Bowl in the 90s. Losing in the second round is like losing a NY6 bowl in the 4 team playoff era. Success is no worse than making the semis. For Day this year, success is no worse than making the title game.
