Rock Band/Guitar Hero Thread

For anyone who plays the drums regularly I really recommend getting the pads. It's so nice to be able to play without hearing all the clicking and clacking and the drums seem more responsive.
Some of you should consider trying the infamous "Tube sock mod"
ScoreHero :: View topic - The infamous SOCK MOD!
Theres plenty of other great Rock Band mods out there, including the mercury switch mod for guitars, so your overdrive won't fire at the wrong time, or not at all.

hey BuckNutty, how are those drum covers overall? Response and sensitivity still the same?

I'd hate to make a blanket statement but in my case they have been great. I've found they are a little more responsive because the surface is softer. I was also having a problem with my red pad caving in a little and now it's protected, or at least I can't see it.

No fucking way I'd rubber band tube sucks on to my drums. :slappy:

Played RB for the first time last night, mostly did vocals because that's easier than guitar. But this game introduces an element that is lacking on GH: revenge. Let me explain. I was with a group of teens at a graduation party and I volunteered to do vocals not knowing what the song was. Then some smart-aleck decided to mess with the old guy so he said "let's do Blondie". Well, I was about ready to puke at the prospect of trying to sing Debby Harry (the song was "Call Me"), but then I thought "don't get mad, get even". I wailed the whole thing using a nails-on-chalkboard falsetto that would have made even a screeching cat sound good. I hit all the notes so they got a pretty good score, but that smart-aleck teen learned his lesson well. :wink2:

I watched a video for GH4's drums, and I must say that they appear to be more impressive than the Rock Band set.

For one, the GH drums have pressure response, so the harder you hit it the louder it sounds. Second, there are two "cymbal" drums on this set. Third, the drums are completely wireless, so you won't have to go through the arduous process on unraveling the wires, setting up the bridge connector so all the instruments can play at once, etc. etc. And finally (and hopefully), the drum set probably won't be made like a piece of shit and mass produced so everyone has problems all the time.

Now, if only Activision/Neversoft knew how to make quality note charts...

Also, Rock Band is now enforcing their 60 day warranty on instruments because they are selling the drums/guitar separate. It used to be no questions ask when you sent in their shitty made peripheral, so now people like me (who got it within the first couple months of release date) are screwed with their shit drums.

Yea,it's a load of crap. Maybe if they made quality products they wouldn't have to worry about it...Now it's the owner's fault for buying them...Pretty neat how that works out...

06/17 Rock Band DLC:

“Afterlife” (Avenged Sevenfold)

“Critical Acclaim” (Avenged Sevenfold)

“Hammerhead” (The Offspring)

“Rock N Roll Dream” (Crooked X)

$1.99 per track... $.99 for the Crooked X song

06/24 Rock Band DLC:

The Pixies - Doolittle (entire album)

$19.99 for 14 tracks. It is a pretty good album, but I doubt I buy the whole thing.

Rhythm Battle: Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Controller Outdoes Rock Band

Normally, we wouldn't consider dropping the cash on another fake drum set, what with the Rock Band kit already taking up considerable space in our living room. Unfortunately, Guitar Hero World Tour's set seems so much better that we're unfortunately considering it. Why? Silent silicone drum pads for one, pads that are also a bit larger in diameter than the ones that ship with Rock Band. That silicone also gives them a little bounce, making drum rolls a little easier to pull off.

The new drum heads are also velocity sensitive, which registers lighter and harder hits depending on how hard you bring down the drum stick. You can also mute the cymbal pads, for dramatic Tommy Lee style moves that coincide with a stick point at the imaginary camera man filming your performance.

Did I mention it's also wireless? ...

And there's more ...

Guitar Hero World Tour: Meet The New Guitar Hero Controller

Activision and RedOctane have stepped up the guitar controller game, adding an all new set of hardware features to the plastic axe that ships with Guitar Hero World Tour No longer are you limited to just five colored buttons and a whammy bar, as the new Guitar Hero proprietary peripheral adds a new touch-sensitive slider on the neck, a new bridge button near the strum bar and a built-in accelerometer. Not only can they all be used during regular gameplay—oh, and your old Guitar Hero III guitar controllers will still work—but they all add a little something to Guitar Hero World Tour's new music creation mode.

The Slider: The new guitar controller's coolest feature lets players muck with sustained notes with finger slides up and down the slider strip area. It can also be used to tap out notes like a virtual Eddie Van Halen for those note heavy Dragonforce moments. In Guitar Hero World Tour's music editor, the slider acts as an arpeggiator, playing rapid-fire notes with in the Music Studio mode's various arpeggio styles.

GH's peripherals are going to blow Rock Bands out of the freaking water. The GH guitar controller is already infinitely better than RBs, so I can only imagine that the drums will be superior as well.

It should be worth noting that Rock Band will likely release a Rock Band 2 this year (I saw an add for the entire RB set for $99 this weekend). One would think they'd update their peripherals to be more durable.

No kidding.

Anybody looking for Rock Band should start trolling their local GameStops with the impending flood of trade-ins from people ready to dump Rock Band and free up some cash (and a lot of space in the living room) for GH World Tour.

So the big question is how does Rock Band respond?

I'm hoping they nail down an exclusivity agreement with AC/DC, so the peripherals included with RB2 can include a gong and a canon! Or maybe they could license Jackyl's 'The Lumberjack' and bundle a chainsaw.

Rock Band 2 ... now with more cowbell!

I didn't get GH3 just because I wasn't a big fan of the list of songs compared to GH2. But GH4 is going to blow all of them away. With the ability to create your own song, and what I heard is you could play a track and it would create the notes) not sure if that is true, but that feature alone is awesome. That and the drum set looks unbelievable. Definitely going to have to pick up GH4
