Rock Band/Guitar Hero Thread

Hey Buck, what kind of TV do you use and what kind does your sister use? It may have been a lag type of issue, I think you can calibrate the game to compensate for it. I was having some problems on my grandparent's tv, I thought it was an LCD, but I guess it was a DLP. Not sure if that would have made a lot of difference, I didn't change it, it wasn't lagging too bad.

I have a rear projection HDTV. My brother in law has a Plasma. I did actually try to change the settings and while it helped some I just couldn't get it right.

Played Rockband again, took it to a friend's house. Switched off mic and guitar with his gf while he played drums. I usually have no problem getting over 90% on Hard with guitar, don't have the beat down with the drums yet. It was pretty fun, we couldn't get his gf to sing over a whisper though  I was lookin' at the list of songs you can download already for the game...holy crap. Anybody done this yet? If the downloads are free, Rockband easily trumps the Guitar Hero series.

Got Rockband this week, and have played it the last couple of days with my wife and kids. We haven't ventured past easy but it's more fun than I thought it would be.

ulukin- from what I was reading this week, I'm under the impression that the song downloads have to be purchased.

For the 360 you pay $1-$2 per song or $5 for a 3-song pack. I think most of the songs are well worth downloading (there's a Metallica pack, Radiohead, Weezer, Black Sabbath, Police just to name a few). There are already like 40 downloadable songs and they seem to be releasing 3 songs a week (and promised full albums of The Who, Metallica and Nirvana at some point).

or as I said above...Get a mod chip and unzip your own songs for gh3,and never buy another guitar hero again..I'm not sure about rockband, because I never have played it,but I have more songs on gh3 then people will ever need...It's unreal that they want you to pay for downloads...

I just got Rock Band this week. It is a lot of fun.

I'm not sure if I like the Strat guitar better than the GH Gibson, it seems like sometimes the down strummer have problems working. The 5 extra buttons for "finger tapping" solos is pretty nice, however.

Overall, everyone that has played the game so far has loved it; it's a great party game. Now I just have to get XBox Live so I can get some new songs.

I have to say that I was incredibly disappointed in Guitar Hero 3. The window to hit notes was a lot bigger, making all of the songs a lot easier to do. Hammer-on / pull-off was way too easy. The game was just way too easy. I ran straight through every song on that game, aside from Through the Fire and Flames and Raining Blood (I was playing the PS2 version, so I never got to play Devil Went Down to Georgia).

Oh yeah, speaking of their rendition of Through the Fire and Flames, the beginning part is not a guitar part! Not only that, that was the only truly difficult part of the song, and it was not that fun to play.

This version was a lot more fun, but maybe because the GH2 engine made it a lot harder to play.

Anyway, as for Rock Band, no complaints here. I like the Guitar and Bass parts to an extent. On Expert, it still gets kinda boring. But, it is cool to be able to play in a group.

I was really wondering how well the vocals would work out on Rock Band. I am quite impressed. I cant really play the instruments correctly, so I am the dedicated vocalist for our crew. Am not the greatest singer ever or anything, but I am ok, and the game is very accurate. I did 100% on black hole sun on medium, but the songs with higher notes, like dead or alive, etc...........I just cant do.

I finally played Rock Band last night. Before playing it, I thought that RB/GH were the most stupid looking games I have ever seen. I was wrong. It was fun as hell! Enter Sandman kicked my ass on the guitar.

Brutus, you don't need to be in the same octave range as a song, you can drop it down one, as long as the pitch is the same. I downloaded Foreigner's Jukebox Hero and tried to stay with the lead singer...wasn't gonna happen :)

Right but that depends on what difficulty you're on. At least I think so. I havent played on expert yet.

Actually did pretty well on Long time.........didnt think I could stay with that one, but I held my own. Ugh, cant believe I like this game.

I played this for the first time over the weekend.. I play guitar, so I expected to like the guitar the most. Wrong! The drums just kick ass. I might buy this from a friend of mine for $120.

Songs looked pretty solid from what I saw. My only complaint was that sometimes the notes in the game didn't sound like the matched up with the actual song.. but that's one downside of actually being a guitarist and playing songs on a game. :tongue2:

I'm getting a little bit better, and have ventured to playing a few songs on medium. The first time I tried the "paranoid" song, my wrists got all turned funny and I felt as though I was a participant in a special ed band. I can't imagine having to use all of the riff buttons, at this point, to play harder difficulty songs, and fear doing so might result in some form of self injury. Oh well, it looks like I have lots of practice ahead.

I have had a couple of oppurtunities to play in a band using all 3 instruments (sans the bass guitar) and find that to be a cool experience. It seems to be the ultimate party game at this time.
