Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Can anybody see this getting to a point that's so bad that tsun will see the need to cut ties with him and move on? If so, you would think it would have to be soon...
I think it would be highly irresponsible for TSUN to "cut ties" with a newly-hired coach who is currently only the target of a jilted ex-employer, and against whom there is only innuendo and rumor.

DickRod strikes me as a pretty corner-cutting sort of guy, but also as a guy who is too smart to do things that are out-and-out illegal. I think it would behoove us to not get too haughty before some facts come out. And darn few facts have emerged in this whole deal.

The last time I remember a Coach getting hammered this much by the media and the majority of national fanbases jumping in the Kool-Aid with both feet was when Jim Tressel was being accused of all sorts of things during the MoC days...

In both cases, the coach was definitely a sleaze if the party on the other side of the disagreement was telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. In Coach Tressel's case, the "party on the other side of the disagreement" is now in prison. In Coach Rod's case, the adversarial party is West Virginia University. Shall we now draw parallels between MoC and WVU?

eh, maybe not

Tress was/is 100% NOT sleaze because MoC was 100% lying.

I'm not ready to accept that RichRod is 100% NOT sleaze or that WVU is 100% lying. But we need not infer that the polar opposite of that is true.

Aren't you the guy that called RR a "prick" over two years ago as was quoted recently?

What changed your opinion?

While I agree nothing criminal has come out, some shady buisness has. Conducting UM buisness on WVU provided cell phones? Sounds pretty stupid to me. If you are burning your alma mater, that just gave you a hefty pay raise less than a year earlier, you should anticipate a less than pleasant seperation. You would think you would be sure to do everything on the up-'n-up. Doesn't appear old tricky dick did that. The guy has a reputation as a snake, which makes all of this hard to ignore. Perception is reality to most people, and he is dragging a stink in to Ann Arbor. Time will tell how this all works out, but I can't wait to see how he handles not being able to bring in recruits like Devine and Lazear...assuming UM doesn't allow him to stoop to that.

I see the parallels, but I still think the underlying causes are different. In Tressel's case, you essentially had the accusations of one former player--who had been dismissed from the program--combined with Cooper's players not being able to stay out of trouble. I also know, directly from a board member of the Chicago development office and the OSU Foundation board, that had the NCAA corroborated any of Clarett's claims, Tressel was GONE--national championship or no national championship. As it turned out, the NCAA stuck a microscope up our ass for two years with ESPN and the NYT looking over their shoulder and found nothing.

In Rodriguez' case, you have not only numerous instances of dishonesty and malfeasance during his transition to the UM job being brought up by university officials and the press, but a steady track record of bringing in Switzer/Osborne types of characters over seven years at WVU. I think there's considerably more smoke here than there ever was with Tressel. I can't speak as to what the powers that be at Michigan are making of this, but would hope that there is a line in their minds at which point they admit their mistake and whack him--as the OSU powers had with Tressel in 2003-2004. Luckily for us, the more of a spotlight that was shown on the program, the more we learned that Tressel was doing things correctly.

Starting to look like rr was looking out for #1 so much he stepped (or jumped) in #2, he should fit right in in AA, like Woody said(or was reported to have said) "go north til you smell it and west til you step in it"

Yes, I'm that guy...

My opinion hasn't changed...not sure where that perception would come from based on a simple statement about people taking every article as Gospel when not one person here knows every fact.

...not sure why you didn't ask that with your "usual" handle either.

I don't see anything to indicate his opinion has changed, Mr. President. Just because somebody is a prick doesn't mean he is guilty of every accusation that comes out.

...but isn't that my point? National fanbases assumed everything was true about tOSU and JT...they pointed to YSU, former players, etc etc. without worrying about truth.

Now, it seems the fans are doing the same with Rodriguez.

Well you can add "speaks about himself in the third person"

toledoblade.com -- Rodriguez says 'lies' need to end

From the article:

"It's very frustrating," Rodriguez said. "I knew there'd be some emotions involved when I left, but I wanted to take the high road. I've chosen to move on, but it's almost like it's something new every day, and it's totally ridiculous."

Then pay the $4 million you agreed to.

"The implication to me is slanderous," Rodriguez said. "What they are implying, to me, attacks my integrity, and that's why I'm so upset. This has gone too far.

"It's bad enough that they throw things out there, and my family gets harassed, my relatives get threatened, and they try and attack my credibility right in the middle of recruiting. And then to throw something out like this, with anonymous sources ...

Too many comments can be made on this part.
