Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Could this had been the reason? Why fire someone only to bring them back one day later? Looks like RR is making knee jerk decisions.....only to rethink them or other people telling him "hey dumbass maybe this isn't the smartest move to make"......

Jackson has been a strong recruiter at Michigan, and there had been considerable speculation incoming freshman standout tailback Sam McGuffie would only sign with the Wolverines if Jackson remained on staff.

Lloeffler is the name that suprised me the most. He was seemingly well-liked by everyone and appeared to have a bright future with the program.
Especially since this was a coach Pryor liked.

Wait... what?

Makes me wonder if he got an earful from people with deep pockets.
Or from recruits jumping ship.

Bingo.

I'm sorry, but we may be getting a bit carried away here.

Cleaning house has been done before. Even doing what RR is doing and hiring folks back has been done before.

Let's not forget that Carr had all of his assistants put on two year contracts. It might be to their benefit to be fired and rehired. And as someone mentioned earlier it is not a bad idea to restart things with new terms and new expectations - making it clear that nothing carried forward.

That RR fired these guys, was pressured by recruits and alums, and started rehiring all in 24 hours is a bit of a stretch.

Let's not sacrifice our credibility when there are so many other targets for pot shots.

EDIT: Mods, if you feel this is another one of those posts getting carried away with the house cleaning, please delete

Gibson could breath a lot of life into scUM's struggling secondary, but I'd hardly consider first year WVU coaches Rod Smith (QB coach) and Greg Frey (OL coach - and no, not this Greg Frey) upgrades to scUM's staff over proven coaches like Scot Loeffler and Andy Moeller (though Moeller would most likely be gone either way with the DUI). Getting rid of both Erik Campbell and Fred Jackson is a mistake though (12 years each at scUM as assistants). They were recruiting and developing the WRs and RBs that killed Cooper's teams year after year and won a national title with those players. I'm sure their firing had a whole lot more to do with the system that scUM will be changing over to and less with what these coaches have or haven't done, but with a complete turnover, the only immediate links to the past in that locker room are the kids themselves.

Maybe I'm crazy for arguing that RR made a bad decision with his personell there, but then again, a bad m*ch*g*n means another down season for the Big Ten.

One can argue that because the recent past has been so bad that they need to completely start over, but they weren't too bad last year, were they? They were votes away from a rematch with us and they had all the motivation in the world behind them to win that rematch for a national title. Did they really need a complete house clearing like that? At least m*ch*g*n fans can rest knowing they'll have a duel threat QB on their team for a change in the near future. After all, we're too slow to handle them and the spread offense that comes with it. :wink2:

I think what was meant by those saying this is getting out of hand is we need to let it pan out. It is hard for us to truly know the intentions of RR. If it turns out he made a bad move and it hurts their program over many years we'll be able to look back at this as one of the deciding factors.

It looks like this could be another case of the media getting it wrong or only half right about firing the entire staff. I should have known better than to have a knee jerk reaction to what they do.

However, it is strange that on Thursday "all 9 assistants were fired" with no info, at least to my knowledge that any might be rehired. Did the media miss this, did the "unnamed source" spout off prematurely. Or conspiritorially did Nimrod float a trial balloon to gauge public sentiment (I know, I watched too much X-files and lived through the B Clinton administration)

Well I'll check back on this thread in a while to see another episode of "the stomach turns"

Guilty as charged. Dealing with silence from the AD since mid-November is taking its toll on my critical thinking skills.

If that's the case I fell into the same trap.

Not sure this is much more than just how the business works. When everyone is let go at once, the message is regime change rather than performance. Anyone rehired now owes their job to RR rather than Carr, which is probably smart. There's a big psychological difference between deciding to stay on despite the new guy and deciding to take a job you didn't have a day ago.

I hope RR does a good job with M*ch*g*n... good team, no ethical issues, and beat everyone but OSU (maybe we could call him caRR...). It was fun to watch the post-Appalachian State squirming, but it wouldn't be much fun to see them down if it happened every year. I'd rather beat a good team than a lousy one.
