Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Let me get this straight.

So the Reds get Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Jason Isringhausen, and Russ Springer?

And the Cardinals get Felipe Lopez, Jason LaRue, Ryan Franklin, and Dennys Reyes?

If the Cards throw in Miguel Cairo and the Reds throw in Aaron Miles, you have a deal!

...And both you and I said "bench" but to me this move also screams "LF platoon".

and less Jonny Gomes is a plus in my book. Plus Edmonds is 40 years old, which means Dusty will certainly play him.

I suppose I like Edmonds just a little more than Dickerson for the rest of this year. I would have liked to have Dickerson as a 4th outfielder for the next or years, but oh well. I guess the Reds hated his injury situation and didn't want to deal with it for years to come.

Dickerson is already 28 and can't find playing time ahead of Gomes, Nix, Stubbs, Heisey, and Bruce, so I don't see this as being any substantial loss. Besides, Dusty Baker had clearly had enough of him, and regardless how this season ends, Baker has probably done well enough to win himself another two or three years at the helm.

While Dusty takes his share of abuse here and elsewhere about his abilities as a tactical game manager, he's also shown a very good touch at getting career years out of guys allegedly past their primes.

If Edmonds can play like he's 30 for just seven weeks, it might work out.

bein reported travis wood is the one bein sent down...

ummmm WHAT

With the 10 day setup and him just pitching, the day off on Thursday allows for his spot to be skipped and then he is called right back up 10 days from now.

If Leake had pitched yesterday he may have been sent down.

You aren't the only one that has noticed that I'm sure

Now if the Cards trade for Corey Patterson we'll know something is up.

There's supposed to be a presser at 4PM... Keeping my fingers crossed for Chapman.

On the surface, Wood is a headscratcher. He's been the club's best pitcher since the ASB. With upcoming off days, the Reds can skip his spot a couple times and bring him back in 10 days. If Leake wasn't going tonight, it could've just as easily been him. As it stands, Wood is in pretty bad need in his own right to have his innings limited - otherwise he's on track to eclipse 200 when the most he's pitched in the past has been around 160-170.

From the rumor mill....

Wood was sent down, and Fransisco is packing his bags.

Wood is probably down just for 10 days.

Next question, who comes up? Chapman?

That means Bailey is coming back soon and that Harang won't be far behind him.

I still don't think you'll see Chapman until September if at all.

Bailey is not going to do anything in this series. No need to send down Fransisco today unless it's a reliever or another infielder.
