Reds Tidbits (2007 Season)

Yeah I know, I just thought we were passed these giving up 6 runs in 2 inning type outings...

Hopefully these are few and far between, but it sucks when they come on back to back nights...

I fully expect this bull pen to have its issues. The first one I put on Narron for not getting Coffey out of there against Berkman when he didn't have is A game and he had 3 lefties in the pen. As for last night, it was just a meltdown. I think it brings up the issue that we all knew was there when Hermanson didn't make the squad. They have no "proven" closer at the back end of this pen. That forces everybody one step up into a role that they shouldn't be in.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think they need to evaluate Burton's closer potential over the next few weeks. He looks to be the only guy on the 40 man who has the "stuff" to be a closer. Well, I'd say Coffey also has the "stuff" but hasn't harnessed it yet. If some of the starters at the minor league level work out, Lohse could be a possiblity down the road. Bottom line, I think they need to get creative to fill that hole. What difference does it make who the closer is if you can't get out of the 7/8th with a lead? I also think they need to replace Hume. He hasn't been able to develop anyone since he has been here. Wagner, Coffey, Graves, etc. have all had the pitching ability and it has gone to waste under his watch. This bullpen resembles his pitching career way too much for my taste. We didn't use to call him "Boom Boom" Hume for nothing.

Well all that can be said for our last games is that our starting pitching has been amazing...

Harang, Arroyo, and Lohse have all thrown great games, and unless we can pony up some runs not one of them is going to get a win...:!

BTW the Phillies sure earned their one run with us looking like the bad news bears as the ball goes of Hatte and Phillips gets it and throws it into left field...:!

I keep waiting for Thom to go Harry Doyle... "We only got one goddamned hit?!?" Kinda surprised to see Coffey in there, but he's looked OK. Hope they get the sticks out tomorrow, I have tix. (Actually, if someone really wants to go you can PM me, my wife would rather stay at home). Looking forward to getting my Mr. Redlegs fleece blanket. Maybe Hamilton can come up with some 9th inning magic.

finally... go figure it was against one of my closers on my fantasy teams LOL. oh well.:)

BP with the big knock! 2-1 Redlegs in 10. Nice. Valentine almost got caught celebrating instead of getting his fatass across the plate.

I dumped Flash the other day for Chis Ray, looking like a great move now.

Well Hatte got it done in the ninth and then Javy, Freel, Dunn either walked or got hits and then Phillips come thru with the game winner...

The big crowd tonite got to see a great game...

I would just love to see EE and Ross break out of their terrible slumps they are in...

BTW Lohse has been our best pitcher so far this season...

If you buy Narron's excuse that he made "just two bad pitches" in that game at Arizona, then you could argue he's been the best pitcher in the NL thus far. Those "two bad pitches" account for 66% of the runs he's given up in four starts, but he's only got 1 W to show for it.

Just got in from the ballpark. It was nice to have a lot of people in there, but there was exactly zero excitement in that place until Hatteberg pulled their asses out of the fire.

After watching tonight's game, I'm fully confident that Encarnacion will break out of his slump if given the chance. I don't think I can say the same for Ross. He is completely lost at the plate. I'm sure he has value to the pitching staff, so it's gonna suck to have to suffer through his four automatic outs every game.

The Reds turned two double plays tonight. How 'bout that?!

Ross is so fucking lost at the plate I'm not exaggerating when I say a lot of us could do better. He had a hanging breaking ball to mash tonight and completely fanned on it. That's a sign of a deeeeep funk.

Enjoy the feelings of last night because Uncle Milty's on tonight.:sick1:
